But Wayne, Valentino, and Oceno’s research, conducted in June, found hostility toward women was a major factor, predicting support for Trump more strongly than authoritarian attitudes and about as well as racial prejudice. The political scientists used a four-question survey to determine sexist attitudes, asking if people agreed with the following statements: Most women interpret innocent remarks or acts as being sexist. Many women are actually seeking special favors, such as hiring policies that favor women over men, under the guise of asking for equality.
The survey also asked how strongly respondents supported Clinton or Trump. The higher they were on the sexism scale, the more likely they were to support Trump and the less likely they were to support Clinton. Hostile sexism was nearly as good at predicting support for Trump as party identification was.
Sexism — and particularly anti-feminism — isn’t politically neutral. Many conservative women have come forward to say they’re horrified by Donald Trump, but sexism has been correlated with support for other Republican candidates as well. In studies of voters in 2008 and 2012, traditional beliefs about gender and hostility toward feminism were also linked to much lower support for Hillary Clinton.
Thanks, Puddle....explains some of the problem. Watching Hillary speak and respond I have grown fond of her ...and her positions. AND smiles are better than frowns and glowers on any screen....or in person. Still on edge..but every vote counts...and Trump is still acting like a hateful, spoiled child who could ruin this country like a child smashing a toy that did not suit him.
Saw my ortho doc today....new x rays showed a knee joint that was gapping slightly open on the inside, and upper and lower leg bone pushed together on the outside. That was causing weakness and pain.....whole thing typical of RA damage to knees. Solution..cortisone shot on the inside were it was swollen...continue with support of soft brace.....and let my good weekly therapist add knees to neck and shoulder! No need to worry .....and tomorrow is party time in my apt. Brenda's birthday and my son and his wife will be arriving from a vacation in S. Carolina to help celebrate! Of course, it was Brenda who took me to the doc.!!!! Love you all..and thanks!
I'm still reading "The Seduction of Hillary," more information than I can digest, but it confirms my growing impression of her as courageous, principled, strong, dedicated, and controlling. Bill comes off as very weak, self indulgent, undisciplined, and Hillary is the opposite.
I understand the feeling of being an over-wound watch, Puddle. Me too.
Shirlee, I'm glad that your knee is diagnosed and you'll receive therapy. Chronic pain is very hard to live with.
The weather continues mild here, 60s, 70s, and no rain. We haven't had more than one rain shower in a month. The bears are still out. I dumped some food waste under the wood chip pile only to notice the next morning it had been dug out. Dumb me. But, with this warm weather, everything seems to be off rhythm.
I'm feeling optimistic that Hillary will be elected, and with a democratic Senate maybe we can be the "good country" again. We watched Bill Maher last night where he interviewed President Obama and then led the three panel discussion he usually has. He was almost hysterical in my perception, really distraught that Trump might be elected. He said that we are experiencing a Republican coup. I hope not. I hope that we will be more demanding of the media. With all Trump's baggage, this should have been out front years ago.
Set my clock back an hour when I got up. HATE that it was full dark by "5:30"--
Two different sources (one per state) have declared that yesterday the Latino early voters have brought Florida and Nevada home. The margin is now insurmountable.
Thank you, Listener for Brenda''S cake......I will make sure she sees it. She will be along in a couple of hours bearing weekly supplies! We had a fine time with my son and his wife from Michigan. One afternoon/evening here and one at Brenda's very cool house... literally and figuratively ....her neighbor has a huge old white oak whose shade also protects Brenda's house.
Our Michiganders are flying home today.....we had a most lovely time and Brenda put her brother to work on a couple of minor repair projects! She is the youngest...but the older ones respect her...very much!
Hello alll. This is Brenda. Thanks for the Birthday wishes and the blog cake! I stopped by the Guilford County Democrats office today. Made a last minute donation to the cause and picked up some buttons! The two favorites: "Don't Boo! Vote" and "Pussies against Trump! You can't grab this!" Lol.
I'll be thinking of you all on Tuesday as we collectively DUMP TRUMP.
It's nice to hear from you, Brenda, and glad your birthday was fun.
About the senate races, no word yet, though our Senator Bennett is ahead in the polls.
Another warm, dry day here. Still reading the Hillary book. If I'd had my druthers, we would have had Bernie. The political camps are just too ingrained, too much insider stuff, too much collusion. We do need a revolution of people who are ethical, are not tied to all kinds of moneyed interests, who are not insiders to the extent the Clintons and others were and are. How to do this???
As David says, and me too, I have hope that Hillary will be ethical, principled, fair, wise. I have hope.
Made it home safely. We had a couple of near accidents due to human error (like the bozo who decided to buzz by us doing 90 as Bill began to pass a tractor trailer truck. Bozo had no clue that he was going too fast for a driver, who was glancing in the mirror several times, to see him in time. Glad to say everybody survived...though it's a darn good thing Bill has a strong heart!
{{{ PUDDLE!!!! }}} YOU got onto Facebook tonight!!??!!!! Could it be the real you and not a hacker?! I see you posted the same (worthy) story above as well, which gives me much hope. DO TELL how you managed this immense feat! All ears here!! :-D
Sootty brought me a new version of firefox (on CD) AND facebook made a simpler version of itself. It's a pain to use, but it seems to actually work most of the time.

Shirlee--so sorry for the pain; so glad you have peeps around you that can ameliorate it!
And happy party time with family!!
Thanks. Puddle for the family wishes. That was a great report about the teacher and the student!
One thing about having company....get dressed before they arrive! Even...or more so seldom seen visitors!
Love to all.

Feel like an over-wound watch. If dropped, will break. Ack.
Sobering to consider that this is the first election, any time, any where, where the KKK, the KGB, and the FBI are all supporting the same person. . .
and Louis Farrakan. :(
Hi Barb, Listener, Puddle, Shirlee,

Pat...any word on Senate races?
That said...
We're in Maine enjoying the other half of our Grands! Also enjoying thinking about anything else but the election. For now...

Democrats are up 6 percentage points among early voters.
The latest poll in NY has Zephyr down 6 points. :-(
Still driving home from Maine. Just crossed into VT.

Bright blue, not a cloud in sight. Coolish. It'll do.
Took a much needed nap earlier this evening. Glad, glad, glad this is nearly over. Doubt I'd have made it another week, lol!
