The day got away from me. We had a little excitement this evening when one of our kitties came traipsing through the living room with a mouse in her mouth. We managed to rescue the mouse and set it free. Hopefully it will stay off the back porch after this, because, after all, they are indoor cats save for the screened back porch! Silly mouse.
No more back porch time for the kitties after dark. Silly kitties.
Thanks for the new thread, Puddle......we need to be reminded how physically and mentally childish our current leader? is! I have a small bandage back on my cheek because the earliest wound was beginning to drain again. Brenda found some lighter weight tape not so irritating to the skin.
Puddle, I just had to have two types of blood samples drawn as part of the requirement for the RA doc. Results came back to the docs and to me.. one part included a liver function test...mine was just fine. Hospice people had been worried because I take two extra strength Tylenol every four hours around the clock. Hospice nurses have been warning me too much T. HA! For now...perhaps if I were Going to be on it for years it might be a problem....but that sure ain’t gonna happen! Good to be right for once. Love to all!
Holly Povlsen Johnson, Deaniac of southern Illinois who retired and moved to Hawaii, has evacuated her home due to lava flow down the street next to her home. Looks likely they'll lose it. Light, prayers, etc. I'm sure would be welcome. yikes
Hi Listener, Shirlee, Barb, and Puddle. Yes, I've been listening to NPR and watching clips on Facebook about the volcanic explosions. I know people in that area also. I'm so sorry for them and I hope there will be no injuries. The Kilauea volcano is the most active on the planet.

I do think spring may be arriving. Pasque flowers in meadows, abundant, and I saw my first larkspur today, only one, but beautiful blue violet.
Mizzen and Spinnaker had an excellent checkup at the Vet today! Both are super healthy kitties, from teeth to weight to lungs!! Pretty amazing given their rough beginning 6 years ago. They were glad to get home from their vet visit today. We were glad too, as they are very vocal back seat drivers!
Hi, ladies...still here...just going with the Flow! This week my oldest daughter and husband will stop on their way from their winter quarters in Florida back to their big, old house on Lake Erie.
All power is back on after the tornado, but the hardest hit parts of the city are still being cleaned up.
So very glad that Greensboro is coming back together after the tornado, Shirlee! It's a really big deal! I read that the winds were 135mph! WOW!! That's a high end EF2, almost an EF3.
Where along Lake Erie? We lived in the Erie area for a year just after college. We saw thousands of Monarch butterflies feeding out on Presque Isle. Amazing.
Today I was called upon to take care of my 5 year old grandson and 2 1/2 year old granddaughter, so their parents could go together to a doctor appointment. DIL has been having high blood pressure issues, which is a complication in the pregnancy. Hoping she can make it 2 1/2 more months, but my goodness her belly is huge already. I asked if they are sure of the dates and they said they are. Our vet is due for her baby next month and her belly is much smaller than our DIL's. So many normal sizes, of course. They just want to get to week 37+ so there's no need for an NICU. Prayers cherished. 💖
Today was expected to be: sleeping in, planting Irises before the afternoon heat, another trip to Mini Service to get my car's tail/brake light working, then a bit of this and that, mostly Tai Chi, elliptical, silence, prayer, reading, and some light housework.
It turned out to be: sleeping in, meeting my pregnant DIL and little grands at the Kids Gym, planting the Irises just before the sun hit their spot, getting the tail/brake light fixed, then stopping to pick out the cloth for the next Grandbaby Quilt! Made it home just in time to make dinner.
Tonight I will make Mother's Day cards for my Daughter and three Daughters-in-Law.
Tomorrow is expected to be: Tai Chi class, complete and mail Mother's Day cards, heavy duty housework, and please oh please some Silence and open spaces.
I was really happy to be invited to the Gym, though!! I even got some stellar photos! I wish I could share them with a FB link like I've done in the past, but FB no longer allows me to make albums. I can only post photos to my Timeline, and that doesn't offer a link. Phooey.

Still hanging in here, folks! Just dealing with the small infections that pop up on the cancer, burst, drain, heal and start over again. Just annoying, but Brenda tends them carefully between nurse visits.
I had a nice visit from my favorite book dealer in town. My apartment was Just down Elm street from his store. He opened in 2014 and carries a. very good selection of new titles...and a section of used. Now planning a Greensboro literary festival with major authors in to read/speak for this summer. It was good to see him again ...and get the latest on the book world in Greensboro.
Listener, my daughter and husband have houses in Marblehead, Ohio on the south side of the lake. They know they had some damage in the basements, but have contractors to check on problems when they are gone.

Yesterday was pretty much one of those days from hell, painwise. My perfectly functional left knee, able and painfree took a vacation, and this knot of hot, sharp, searing pain took it's place. Now if I just sat, and played on the computer, it pretended to be the old knee. But if I got up to, say, go pee, or let the dog in and out, or make food, pain arrived on giant knife feet and took over the limb and my whole life. Started on the outside of the leg, above and below the knee, and the nets assured me that it was a messed up ITband. How I did that the nets and myself could not scope out, but there it was. Later, it migrated to include the knee itself, both sides and middle.
I moved to my biggol 2 dollar painkillers that I have been hoarding for years. The merest edge was shaved from the pain. Long and short of it, I fed the dog, let him in and out several times, didn't pee myself, and got food two times. Late in the day remembered what I'd got the emu oil for in the first place. Got a couple of slathers before bedtime, and several over night, and feel much better today. Only a slight twinge left, and I'm being very careful.
I'd *really* like never to have another day like that. Evah.

On Friday I drive an hour to two spiritual guidance meetings. I'm looking forward to it. Such a holy trust.
On Thursday 5 of us from Tai Chi class met and practiced together. Our instructor couldn't be there as she was teaching Tai Chi to nurses, in a mini workshop. Basically, she was showing them how to remember to breathe. I'm so glad she did that!
Oh, Shirlee, I posted about our niece having an infection before reading your note about your own. Cancer wreaks havoc with the immune system, making it harder to heal. I hope yours is quelled soon and fully!

I chipped a lower tooth in March. Saw the dentist and we decided it was tiny and would smooth itself over. It has..five times...then a new chip has happened each time. Decided I'd best call the dentist and sure enough another tooth lost a big chunk. (it's genetics.) So I have to go to the dentist on Monday instead of having an unfettered painting day...! SIGH. I may have to settle for two half days.
That is, if I can find the canvas I'm looking for. Ha! I started a painting of irises some years ago, and would like to finish it. So far it has purple irises, but some are supposed to be yellow as well. So I need to find a florist which has yellow irises, and I really need to find that canvas! I know it is in a box and I know what the box looks like, but it has so far eluded me.
Day two totally pain free. I *wish* pain had some purpose, but for me, it sure doesn't seem to. The illnesses that really might have killed me came pain free. Have NO idear what that day of pain was all about; glad it's gone gone gone. And bless all the emus who have given up their lives in the name of keeping others pain free.

I'm sorry to hear of your overwhelming pain, Puddle. I think pain is one of the hardest things we deal with. I'm glad it has abated. Sometimes I wake up in the night feeling cramps. I go downstairs, take to Gas X pills, and go into the bathroom. I may go up and down the stairs several times, and then it abates. I'm grateful for Tums and Gas X.
I'm reading for the third time a small book called, The Way of the Small by Michael Gellert, and it inspires and comforts me. Wonderful quotes throughout: "Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." Mark Twain.

And YES!! I found the painting!!! Hurrah! Hurrah! Only, now I can't find a single florist with yellow irises to sell. So, if I want to finish it, I will have to settle for using photographs. Hmmm.
I am getting up (in 6 hours! eek!). We plan to go to church, then have a picnic, visit the Shelburne Museum (google it!), then go to Root*Center*Son's house...whereat I will change into jeans and weed in the gardens while the guys screw together his raised beds. After that we are going to roast potatoes and possibly Applegate hot dogs at the bonfire ring, to have with salad. Must get to bed! Ha!
Emu oil is available at pretty much any health food type store. I get mine on Amazon. It's important to get 100%. Lots out there just pretending. If it's clear, it's NOT emu oil. 100% "pure" does NOT mean 100% emu. Alas. Real emu oil is a creamy white. And disappears into skin very quickly.
My stories--in 2002, I was having a huge arthritis flare up, both knees, lots of pain. And trying *everything*--oral and topical for the pain. All the icy/hots and blue slather ons. Came down the pike this new stuff, New Blue Emu. . . . So got it. AND. It actually worked, *significantly* better than any of the other blues. Checking ingredients, the only difference was the emu oil, and it was only about 7 or 8 percent of the formula. So headed off to the health food store, and asked if they had 100% emu oil. At the time it was about $20 for 8 ounces. Now often twice that. Never used it for anything but inflammation, not as a face or skin cream, not for scars, not for hair. Just pain.
About that time, was driving by my local emu ranch, and he was at the gate, so stopped to talk with him. He said on harvest day, the local farmers, old guys, would come to help. And every year, one or another would say at the end of the day of harvesting fat pads from emus backs, how amazingly good their hands felt. . . .

Just came off of 50 hours without phone or electricity. Direcho. And a wasp bite while lying on my own pillow in my own bed in the dark. The *second* time in my life that has happened. What are the chances? Ever try to hunt down a wasp with a flashlight?
I still remember the day my daughter found a mistake in the Saxon Math Algebra book, called the number in the book, and John Saxon answered. He told her she was right, and they were planning to fix it in the next edition. (I sometimes muse that that's the day she became a math major.)
I had a moment sort of like that tonight. Not as writ large, but significant nonetheless. I found an error in my Tai Chi teacher's list of moves for the 3rd Level form. And tomorrow is our last class.
Every time I tried to do what the list said, I felt confused, because I could not make out how I could go from the move I was on to the next move on the list, with any grace. 🙃 So I looked at the video of Dr. Paul Lam doing the form and he seemed to go straight from the move I was on to the one after the one on the list. I sent a note to inquire.
My teacher just wrote back saying I was "absolutely right" and "I'm glad someone is keeping me honest!" 😃 Feels pretty good to find that I understand the whole of the advanced form at last! 😊 Imagine that! 😮

OOOHHHH! Sorry that you have to endure these breakdowns. Years ago when the electricity went out, it was less onerous. Now, so much is connected and our sense of normalcy and safety is part of it.

I was in NH all weekend for an important (and overnight) family gathering. We got home Sunday night. Then on Monday I had a peer meeting ... in NH. Drove "there and back again" and convened the meeting too.
I am ready to sleep in tomorrow, then have a guidance meeting, then dash off to deliver my DIL's birthday present.
I am so grateful to you, Shirlee, and Brenda as well, for sharing with us as you fight the good fight. I know I need to understand how to do that. Your tips and suggestions would be cherished. And all the more YOU are cherished!!
Failed to mention I got a doc's visit and blood work in the dark last week. Phone stay up long enough to get results. Blood work is fine, they didn't even bother to do an A1c, I've been so good for so long. AND I lost five pounds again. Wish it weren't the same five pounds as before.
Saw an article posted by a Dr. friend on facebook, that losing 15 kilos has a very good chance of backing me out of pre-diabetic. . . . So am going to try for it. Also less to lug around on a daily basis.
Beau made another great escape last night/this morning. Just broke the collar, leaving the D ring on the end of the cable, and collar on his neck. Blessedly, I didn't know until he came in, betrayed by his hope for cheese and a warm bed. He scratched at the door, I went to let him in, showed him the cheese and he literally *burst* into the house, soaking wet. I went to unhook him, and realized he wasn't hooked at all. Ordered new collar on Amazon, due Friday, and meanwhile I need to jury rig one of his old collars to last until then. Something involving wire. Whew.
And another wasp, one of the big slow, GIANT slow, in the bathroom, dead now, but am only entering there armed with black flag. Involved him/her landing on my hand, being brushed away (instinct is strong), being stepped on and then poisoned. Epi-pen and benadryl on the way from the round last week. Did I mention I'm damned sick and tired of this? AM.
Gosh, puddle, isn't this at least the 3rd time da Boy has busted an industrial strength collar? Silly fellow doesn't know his own strength. All passion, that dog.
The critters around you aren't doing you any favours lately!! Let me know when that epi-pen arrives so I can exhale. Love you. ♥
Maybe the 8th or 9th time. Keep looking for a better design. Have one on the radar now where the D ring is on top of the collar, and UNDER the full width of the leather, and no rivets. And it's thick leather.
And yes, his hatred of whoever is traipsing around the far field is enormous and unending. Very different from *people* whom he loves arriving, then he just dances. . . .

Our niece, whose mom just died, was to have a bilateral mastectomy today, but no. They are trying to quell an infection first. Sigh.
She's the mother of our 16 year old great-niece who died a year and a half ago. Think there've been any stress factors in her illness? Heh.

I chipped a lower tooth in March. Saw the dentist and we decided it was tiny and would smooth itself over. It has..five times...then a new chip has happened each time. Decided I'd best call the dentist and sure enough another tooth lost a big chunk. (it's genetics.) So I have to go to the dentist on Monday instead of having an unfettered painting day...! SIGH. I may have to settle for two half days.
That is, if I can find the canvas I'm looking for. Ha! I started a painting of irises some years ago, and would like to finish it. So far it has purple irises, but some are supposed to be yellow as well. So I need to find a florist which has yellow irises, and I really need to find that canvas! I know it is in a box and I know what the box looks like, but it has so far eluded me.
So we'll see what I end up with.

Day two totally pain free. I *wish* pain had some purpose, but for me, it sure doesn't seem to. The illnesses that really might have killed me came pain free. Have NO idear what that day of pain was all about; glad it's gone gone gone. And bless all the emus who have given up their lives in the name of keeping others pain free.

A rainy, cool day here, but so good to see the grasses greening and the wildflowers. I've never seen so many pasque flowers, must be hundreds.
I'm sorry to hear of your overwhelming pain, Puddle. I think pain is one of the hardest things we deal with. I'm glad it has abated. Sometimes I wake up in the night feeling cramps. I go downstairs, take to Gas X pills, and go into the bathroom. I may go up and down the stairs several times, and then it abates. I'm grateful for Tums and Gas X.
I'm reading for the third time a small book called, The Way of the Small by Michael Gellert, and it inspires and comforts me. Wonderful quotes throughout: "Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." Mark Twain.

And YES!! I found the painting!!! Hurrah! Hurrah! Only, now I can't find a single florist with yellow irises to sell. So, if I want to finish it, I will have to settle for using photographs. Hmmm.
How are you spending your Mother's Day?
I am getting up (in 6 hours! eek!). We plan to go to church, then have a picnic, visit the Shelburne Museum (google it!), then go to Root*Center*Son's house...whereat I will change into jeans and weed in the gardens while the guys screw together his raised beds. After that we are going to roast potatoes and possibly Applegate hot dogs at the bonfire ring, to have with salad. Must get to bed! Ha!
Emu oil is available at pretty much any health food type store. I get mine on Amazon. It's important to get 100%. Lots out there just pretending. If it's clear, it's NOT emu oil. 100% "pure" does NOT mean 100% emu. Alas. Real emu oil is a creamy white. And disappears into skin very quickly.
My stories--in 2002, I was having a huge arthritis flare up, both knees, lots of pain. And trying *everything*--oral and topical for the pain. All the icy/hots and blue slather ons. Came down the pike this new stuff, New Blue Emu. . . . So got it. AND. It actually worked, *significantly* better than any of the other blues. Checking ingredients, the only difference was the emu oil, and it was only about 7 or 8 percent of the formula. So headed off to the health food store, and asked if they had 100% emu oil. At the time it was about $20 for 8 ounces. Now often twice that. Never used it for anything but inflammation, not as a face or skin cream, not for scars, not for hair. Just pain.
About that time, was driving by my local emu ranch, and he was at the gate, so stopped to talk with him. He said on harvest day, the local farmers, old guys, would come to help. And every year, one or another would say at the end of the day of harvesting fat pads from emus backs, how amazingly good their hands felt. . . .

Just came off of 50 hours without phone or electricity. Direcho. And a wasp bite while lying on my own pillow in my own bed in the dark. The *second* time in my life that has happened. What are the chances? Ever try to hunt down a wasp with a flashlight?
I still remember the day my daughter found a mistake in the Saxon Math Algebra book, called the number in the book, and John Saxon answered. He told her she was right, and they were planning to fix it in the next edition. (I sometimes muse that that's the day she became a math major.)
I had a moment sort of like that tonight. Not as writ large, but significant nonetheless. I found an error in my Tai Chi teacher's list of moves for the 3rd Level form. And tomorrow is our last class.
Every time I tried to do what the list said, I felt confused, because I could not make out how I could go from the move I was on to the next move on the list, with any grace. 🙃 So I looked at the video of Dr. Paul Lam doing the form and he seemed to go straight from the move I was on to the one after the one on the list. I sent a note to inquire.
My teacher just wrote back saying I was "absolutely right" and "I'm glad someone is keeping me honest!" 😃 Feels pretty good to find that I understand the whole of the advanced form at last! 😊 Imagine that! 😮

OOOHHHH! Sorry that you have to endure these breakdowns. Years ago when the electricity went out, it was less onerous. Now, so much is connected and our sense of normalcy and safety is part of it.

Mom says to tell you we are still here fighting the good fight. Had a visit this weekend from my brother Gary and his wife Cindy, from MI.. Good to see them. Mom didn't realize how many cookies Gary could eat over the course of a weekend, for a skinny guy he can put them away!

I was in NH all weekend for an important (and overnight) family gathering. We got home Sunday night. Then on Monday I had a peer meeting ... in NH. Drove "there and back again" and convened the meeting too.
I am ready to sleep in tomorrow, then have a guidance meeting, then dash off to deliver my DIL's birthday present.
I am so grateful to you, Shirlee, and Brenda as well, for sharing with us as you fight the good fight. I know I need to understand how to do that. Your tips and suggestions would be cherished. And all the more YOU are cherished!!

Failed to mention I got a doc's visit and blood work in the dark last week. Phone stay up long enough to get results. Blood work is fine, they didn't even bother to do an A1c, I've been so good for so long. AND I lost five pounds again. Wish it weren't the same five pounds as before.
Saw an article posted by a Dr. friend on facebook, that losing 15 kilos has a very good chance of backing me out of pre-diabetic. . . . So am going to try for it. Also less to lug around on a daily basis.
YAH, puddle! I believe it!! I lost 12 lbs and my A1c dropped. But I think that's mostly from cutting out sugar.

Beau made another great escape last night/this morning. Just broke the collar, leaving the D ring on the end of the cable, and collar on his neck. Blessedly, I didn't know until he came in, betrayed by his hope for cheese and a warm bed. He scratched at the door, I went to let him in, showed him the cheese and he literally *burst* into the house, soaking wet. I went to unhook him, and realized he wasn't hooked at all. Ordered new collar on Amazon, due Friday, and meanwhile I need to jury rig one of his old collars to last until then. Something involving wire. Whew.
And another wasp, one of the big slow, GIANT slow, in the bathroom, dead now, but am only entering there armed with black flag. Involved him/her landing on my hand, being brushed away (instinct is strong), being stepped on and then poisoned. Epi-pen and benadryl on the way from the round last week. Did I mention I'm damned sick and tired of this? AM.
Gosh, puddle, isn't this at least the 3rd time da Boy has busted an industrial strength collar? Silly fellow doesn't know his own strength. All passion, that dog.
The critters around you aren't doing you any favours lately!! Let me know when that epi-pen arrives so I can exhale.

Maybe the 8th or 9th time. Keep looking for a better design. Have one on the radar now where the D ring is on top of the collar, and UNDER the full width of the leather, and no rivets. And it's thick leather.
And yes, his hatred of whoever is traipsing around the far field is enormous and unending. Very different from *people* whom he loves arriving, then he just dances. . . .
