It's been a busy week of planning two Celebrations of Shirlee and organizing some of her stuff. As you can imagine she subscribed to a LOT of political blogs, mail lists and groups. I opened her email last night and there were over 700 emails! As they say how do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time. One email at a time, I'll slowly get her unsubscribed.
So be thinking of us on July 31st from 6-9pm. The Greensboro Celebration of Shirlee will happen at Scuppernong Books in Greensboro. This is the bookstore 1/2 block from her apartment, she loved going there as much as possible. Brian, the owner, loved her dearly and offered the store for a gathering. We'll drink some wine, eats some tasty appetizers, talk, laugh, tell stories and browse some books I'm sure. Dana, my sister from Cincinnati is coming down for this. Along with all of our Greensboro friends.
Then on August 12, from 1-4, my siblings and I along with a few grand kids, mom's brother and SIL, a few nieces and nephews and Vic's family will gather for a family get together. Dana and I found a airBNb not far from where everyone is located in MI. It has enough room for a gathering and the hosts are being very accommodating. It will be good to see everyone together!
Mom would say, to keep up the good fight and stay focused on getting the repubs out!
What fitting tributes to our dear Shirlee!! My goodness, Brenda, what a lot of work for you!!! I hope you will find time to simply be and grieve and remember and smile....unfettered by responsibilities.

Shirlee would have loved knowing that since my Daughter-in-Law had to spend 24 hours in hospital for monitoring of her pregnancy DURING the 48 hour Nurses Strike, she wore a red dress (red being the colour those on the picket line are wearing) and brought along a Bernie action figure to keep by her bed, because Bernie has been supporting the nurses on strike!!!
Happily, she got through it, and all is well with the baby. [Grandbaby is due in nearly mid-August, but will probably be born in about two weeks.] I was so very impressed to read how many grands, great grands and more Shirlee had!! WOWSER! What a legacy! 💖
Well, I may have spoken too soon. DIL's BP won't behave. This birth may have to happen so early that the baby starts out in the NICU. :-( Mama has been trying SO hard to avoid that!! Please hug us all in your prayers.
Also, I didn't mention that yesterday both the baby's older siblings were sick. I was tending them and Brother (5) had a headache and sore throat. Sister 2.5) had a fever and sore throat. And today she threw up. I sure hope none of us adults gets this! Especially DIL!!!
Cooter was due at the end of July, but was born on the 15th, 7 lbs 11 oz, and a head so big the doc said if he'd been born on time, he might not have gotten through the birth canal! As it was took him nearly 24 hours to make that journey, and the skull plates were so far overlapped they made big ridges on his head for months after. Glad we've come so much further down that track that we can keep a better eye on this stuff. And, yes, minny hugs!!

This from my sister and her hubby who got made t-shirts with "Cousins Camp" on them. . . .
Perkins Cousin Camp for 2018 is in the books. First day a trip to Payson Lakes, here Nenna (the youngest) pulls out the largest trout. Next a trip to Darby's barn where everyone had a chance to ride Dallas (her horse) around the arena. Day two a hike to the Grotto and a visit to Pioneer Village in Provo. Day three was circus day with our very own circus with a very handsome (if not hot) gorilla. We had carnival games with prizes and all the adults came to play and enjoy in the carnival food. Bottom line; lots of fun memories, fun times with our grandchildren from 4 to 12, and two exhausted grandparents.
They have 20 grands in all. So not counting babies and teens it was about a dozen campers.
Yah, my third baby got stuck at the shoulders. A 180 degree change of position dislodged him. He was about 11 days overdue and weighed 10lbs, 2oz.
This baby will be born cesarean, but not because of mechanics. Mama gets pre-eclampsia at the end.
The littles are feel much better tonight and Mama's doc told her to stop taking her blood pressure so often. As long as it goes back down when she lies down, she's considered okay. So, so far, so good!

On Monday I heard our President give comfort to our enemy, instead of standing with Americans and the US Intelligence that came out only Friday. Given that we are in a cyber war with Russia, and our elections and democracy are on the line [and I do not say this lightly] I see this as treasonous. I can hardly believe I am having to write this message! As an American citizen, I insist that Congress immediately invoke the 25th Amendment. I tried to call your office multiple times today but you are not accepting messages. Please stand up for Americans! We need leadership and we need it now.

Hallo all and each. Today I took care of my 5 yr old grandson and 2 yr old granddaughter, all day. We had a BLAST and I actually didn't get tired, though how that could be possible I have no idear! We spent three and a half hours at a museum, riding the carousel, looking a hand carved circus train (really long!!), a real train, a paddlewheeler, and a play space. After that we came back to my house and played here.
I get to do much the same sort of thing on Friday!
Mama's cesarean is scheduled for Monday and I'm just trying to help her get from here to there. So far, so good!

Another hot day here, in the 90's. This weekend maybe some rain. Still working on purging my library and stuff. I'm amazed at the accumulation. I wasn't aware, I think, for at least ten years.
Talking to my sons, I've decided to call almost every day. My parents' generation told us family stories, and we were in proximity. Not so our children. I've decided that with daily or at least frequent conversations, I'll tell family stories. I'm sorry we were so busy that we didn't do more of this.

I mentioned earlier that Mama's cesarean is scheduled for Monday. Tonight we learned that the grandparents will hear on Monday that "mother and baby are well", but that is all. Gender, name and particulars won't be revealed until 5 yr old brother and 2 yr old sister come to the hospital with the 4 grandparents sometime the next day or day after that...whenever Mama feels up to it. I find that romantic and sweet. And I'm going to go crazy. I hope that no one else in the family being told the birth has happened until after the revealing doesn't spark bad feelings.
WHAT JOY was experienced watching her siblings meet her for the first time!!! Photos when I can. So far Mom & Dad haven't posted any, so we sha'n't. Soon.
Both my local grands are coming for a visit on Friday. Sam's off for a semester in Ireland in a couple of weeks. And Tonio's going to finish up this year, we hope.

Big Sister is all about babies! When she held Baby Sister the first time and Baby began to fuss, Big Sister stayed entirely calm and coo'd "Don't worry; I'm here." And Baby stopped fussing...! 💕
Oh, such a lovely time! Both boys have grown beards (father and son) and both look terrific! Kids fooled around the crick, tuckered out the dawg, and Tonio and I had a long talk. Daddy worked his butt off.
Well, guess what. I subbed at the Library today and my coworker told me that Erin has given her notice. Last Autumn a position opened there and I put in for it (no weekends, less hours than I used to work), but the Director decided not to give me the job because the dreaded Head Clerk is worse than ever to people, as her beloved ex-husband is much nearer death than he used to be (long cancer journey) and she really didn't want to put me through working with the woman again. So instead she hired Erin. Erin had never worked in the Library system and lives two towns away. So now, eight months later and all trained for the job, she is leaving to take a job with another, larger, library closer to home.
I was surprised. While I worked I pondered whether I'd want the job now. Of course, the same dreaded Head Clerk is still there and her ex-husband is even closer to death (though still ambulatory and not hospitalised, so not imminent either); so it wouldn't make sense for me to apply for the job anyway. It would take the Director inviting me to consider the position. And even then I might prefer to not do it.
But oh my goodness, it was a healing thing that the person she chose simply got trained and left!
Big rain and cool as kin be. One phone line out. Will report it just before I go to bed when I have to switch back to phone. Fun.
Thought I'd lost Beau for about an hour last night. He'd been out, but no barks, so I went to look. And it appeared that the line on the post had somehow opened, and he was out. That arrangement usually leads to the cable getting caught somewhere, somehow. I have NO WAY to look for him. Called kid, who had no ideas. Decided to wait til sunrise, call Nancy and ask if she knew anyone I could pay to go looking. Lit a candle and went out one last time to call him. He was on the end of the porch. And stuck. Following the cable, it was actually still hooked, just fallen to the bottom of the post and pulled part way under so it couldn't be seen from the porch side. Relief and joy. And today rehooked it up higher.
One week postpartum, DIL's BP went way up. They have her BP med and it came down somewhat. But then she got a big headache. She thinks it's how she slept, but if it's not better by morning, or if it worsens, they'll call the doctor. I am all packed to go if summoned, and am going to sleep in my clothes. Heading to bed now.
I got the call at 3:27am to come and left by 3:40am. Tests confirmed that it was not the Sybil of Downton Abbey illness. It turned out that the docs had changed DIL's BP med the day before and it was causing the headache! So they switched her back to her former med, and increased it a little. They got home 5 hours later. I had not gotten back to sleep, so was running on about 3 hours of sleep. When I got home this afternoon (via grocery shopping!), I slept for a little over a half hour. So I'll be crashing into my pillow very soon.
But I got to hold new grandbaby again today and will see them all tomorrow too.
Meanwhile 10 year old granddaughter is here. While I was driving back from Son & DIL's house, she got word that her pet rabbit had suddenly simply died. The rabbit being only a year or so old, this was a big shock to everyone. So Grandad drove her home for the burial and back here (an hour each way).
Thanks again, Pat. It means a lot to know there are such good women out there, thinking of me and hoping good my way.
Had another truly rough day. Grandad and Uncle took 10 year old Granddaughter to their sailing races tonight, but before the races even started they got T-boned by another boat. Truth is that my guys didn't have right of way AND that none of adults on either boat saw the other boat AND both groups have over 20 years of racing experience and the guy who T-boned them is an instructor! The only one of the 6 of them who saw the collision about to happen was Granddaughter. There was no time for anyone to react, except that, as the bow of the other boat was coming right at her, she wisely dove down into the boat. She was the only one injured, and that was only a floor burn. Could have been worse. But they lost a jib, ripped a mainsail, busted the stays and nearly lost the main! Chaos!
In the morning, I have to tell her that her young pet rat had a stroke and died tonight. This on top of her one year old pet rabbit dying on Tuesday (no one knows why). She has three more rats (two old and sickly), one more bunny, a cat, two kittens, and a pony, along with many other horses. Ah, but she loves each one so much. I think it's going to be a sad day. It's been a hard week, and no mistake, but I'm glad we could be together for those moments.
Today I started an oil painting. So far I've done the sketching and imagining. But it will be a painting of my daughter's house, because as of this coming Wednesday she will have owned it for 10 years.
River was over the bridge briefly yesterday, but down to about 98% of the culverts this morning, and no more rain. They've taken to watch away from us, blessedly.
After more than 6 1/2 years with an iPhone 4S, today I upgraded to an iPhone 8. It's bigger, so won't fit as easily in pockets, but it is what it is, and anyway my eyes are only getting older. Ha! The best thing about the upgrade is that my favourite weather app had moved beyond my old phone's capability, but now I have it back! Hurrah!! It's the Storm Radar app from Weather Channel.

Vermont's Primary is next Tuesday. Yesterday I stopped at the local post office to mail a package and who should arrive with me but Jessica, our Town Clerk. She asked me to help count the vote, so I'll be working at the polls 6:30pm to about 8:30pm...which works out perfectly for me!

Big Sister is all about babies! When she held Baby Sister the first time and Baby began to fuss, Big Sister stayed entirely calm and coo'd "Don't worry; I'm here." And Baby stopped fussing...! 💕

Oh, such a lovely time! Both boys have grown beards (father and son) and both look terrific! Kids fooled around the crick, tuckered out the dawg, and Tonio and I had a long talk. Daddy worked his butt off.

Well, guess what. I subbed at the Library today and my coworker told me that Erin has given her notice. Last Autumn a position opened there and I put in for it (no weekends, less hours than I used to work), but the Director decided not to give me the job because the dreaded Head Clerk is worse than ever to people, as her beloved ex-husband is much nearer death than he used to be (long cancer journey) and she really didn't want to put me through working with the woman again. So instead she hired Erin. Erin had never worked in the Library system and lives two towns away. So now, eight months later and all trained for the job, she is leaving to take a job with another, larger, library closer to home.
I was surprised. While I worked I pondered whether I'd want the job now. Of course, the same dreaded Head Clerk is still there and her ex-husband is even closer to death (though still ambulatory and not hospitalised, so not imminent either); so it wouldn't make sense for me to apply for the job anyway. It would take the Director inviting me to consider the position. And even then I might prefer to not do it.
But oh my goodness, it was a healing thing that the person she chose simply got trained and left!
Oh, I forgot to mention that I hadn't worked there since last November, but the whole day went smoothly. I hadn't forgotten how to do it. Ha!
Big rain and cool as kin be. One phone line out. Will report it just before I go to bed when I have to switch back to phone. Fun.
Thought I'd lost Beau for about an hour last night. He'd been out, but no barks, so I went to look. And it appeared that the line on the post had somehow opened, and he was out. That arrangement usually leads to the cable getting caught somewhere, somehow. I have NO WAY to look for him. Called kid, who had no ideas. Decided to wait til sunrise, call Nancy and ask if she knew anyone I could pay to go looking. Lit a candle and went out one last time to call him. He was on the end of the porch. And stuck. Following the cable, it was actually still hooked, just fallen to the bottom of the post and pulled part way under so it couldn't be seen from the porch side. Relief and joy. And today rehooked it up higher.

One week postpartum, DIL's BP went way up. They have her BP med and it came down somewhat. But then she got a big headache. She thinks it's how she slept, but if it's not better by morning, or if it worsens, they'll call the doctor. I am all packed to go if summoned, and am going to sleep in my clothes. Heading to bed now.

I got the call at 3:27am to come and left by 3:40am. Tests confirmed that it was not the Sybil of Downton Abbey illness. It turned out that the docs had changed DIL's BP med the day before and it was causing the headache! So they switched her back to her former med, and increased it a little. They got home 5 hours later. I had not gotten back to sleep, so was running on about 3 hours of sleep. When I got home this afternoon (via grocery shopping!), I slept for a little over a half hour. So I'll be crashing into my pillow very soon.
But I got to hold new grandbaby again today and will see them all tomorrow too.
Meanwhile 10 year old granddaughter is here. While I was driving back from Son & DIL's house, she got word that her pet rabbit had suddenly simply died. The rabbit being only a year or so old, this was a big shock to everyone. So Grandad drove her home for the burial and back here (an hour each way).
It's been quite a day!

Had another truly rough day. Grandad and Uncle took 10 year old Granddaughter to their sailing races tonight, but before the races even started they got T-boned by another boat. Truth is that my guys didn't have right of way AND that none of adults on either boat saw the other boat AND both groups have over 20 years of racing experience and the guy who T-boned them is an instructor! The only one of the 6 of them who saw the collision about to happen was Granddaughter. There was no time for anyone to react, except that, as the bow of the other boat was coming right at her, she wisely dove down into the boat. She was the only one injured, and that was only a floor burn. Could have been worse. But they lost a jib, ripped a mainsail, busted the stays and nearly lost the main! Chaos!
In the morning, I have to tell her that her young pet rat had a stroke and died tonight. This on top of her one year old pet rabbit dying on Tuesday (no one knows why). She has three more rats (two old and sickly), one more bunny, a cat, two kittens, and a pony, along with many other horses. Ah, but she loves each one so much. I think it's going to be a sad day. It's been a hard week, and no mistake, but I'm glad we could be together for those moments.
Ah, poor kiddo. That's a lot to lose in a week! ♥
Yes, to be together. It's love that matters and when we love each other, comfort each other, we can continue on. I'm so sorry for her losses.
She took it well. I am so impressed with her inner strength and courage this week.

Today I started an oil painting. So far I've done the sketching and imagining. But it will be a painting of my daughter's house, because as of this coming Wednesday she will have owned it for 10 years.

River was over the bridge briefly yesterday, but down to about 98% of the culverts this morning, and no more rain. They've taken to watch away from us, blessedly.

After more than 6 1/2 years with an iPhone 4S, today I upgraded to an iPhone 8. It's bigger, so won't fit as easily in pockets, but it is what it is, and anyway my eyes are only getting older. Ha! The best thing about the upgrade is that my favourite weather app had moved beyond my old phone's capability, but now I have it back! Hurrah!! It's the Storm Radar app from Weather Channel.

I am watching returns with great interest. The Ohio House seat is possible, but the tally is narrowing.
Vermont's Primary is next Tuesday. Yesterday I stopped at the local post office to mail a package and who should arrive with me but Jessica, our Town Clerk. She asked me to help count the vote, so I'll be working at the polls 6:30pm to about 8:30pm...which works out perfectly for me!

My view is that when I die, I will have my papers in order and my books on shelves in proper order too. Maybe some of my children and grandchildren will take a few of the books and read them. I consider that leaving a legacy.
