ca, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, December 18, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

Somehow, Good Morning, seems inappropriate after this tragedy.
Why can anyone buy a gun at a Walmart or other such venues without a license, without a background check? We have to have a driver's license to drive a car, present information about ourselves and pass a test to get one. Why, when guns are lethal weapons, their only purpose to maim or kill, can anyone get a gun in this country!!!
Frankly, I am tired of being bullied by the right wing, the ideologues, the libertarians, the pontificating religiosity and repression of the evangelicals for decades in this country. The NRA doesn't speak for the vast majority of citizens and how they've been able to intimidate our representatives, to ignore the responsibility of a society to protect its citizens from crazies with weapons is beyond my understanding.
When are We the People going to speak out for a rational, civil, respectful, and safe society? Guns are weapons of destruction and there is no need for people to have them. For target shooting, for hunting, and our law enforcement officers, yes, but not for anyone who happens to want to have one.
When are we going to stop being bullied, manipulated, and managed by the dishonest, the greedy, the bullies? Murdock and Fox News, News Corp, and the Wall street Journal should be held accountable for their lies and propaganda. They are culpable for manipulating citizens with their propagation of fear and lies.
I am so tired of this. We deserve better.
And yes, we are blessed in Barack Obama. But once again, Susan Rice was bullied out of an opportunity because of people like John McCain, Lyndsey Graham, and I'll add our own idiot representative, Cory Gardner and others of his ilk.

the RW tries to stop marriage licenses between two people of the same sex, but does nothing to stop licenses for guns sold to anyone, anywhere.
The RW needs to get it's priorities put in order.

Yes, a numbing sadness today. We've have had so much gun violence in our lives from JFK, Robert Kennedy, Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King Jr., the Oklahoma City bombing, Columbine High School, others, and this year, I believe, 7 incidents of gunmen murdering innocent people.
As David as said, "When is enough? when will we do something to prevent these disasters?" We cannot prevent mayhem 100%, but we can do much better than this.
It's time our society gave up the mythos of the Wild West. We need infrastructure repair and renovation, educational reform (we don't need to relive the '50s for another century with one size fits all and testing the measure of intelligence and achievement), downsizing the military, immigration reform and the Dream Act (those right wingers who talk about precedent and legality are ignoring circumstantiality and fairness), media accountability, corporate responsibility to employees, and so many other issues. We can't ignore them for another decade.
Well, it's cold here, still no moisture, but I'm hopeful.

Well, we made it from Kennebunk to I-89N, and so far we have skidded with anti-lock brakes through a red light, passed a fender bender and saw a serious traffic backup at the intersection of I-93 & I-89. The snow witches give the road a lava lamp effect, and black ice is definitely an issue. If anyone has info about roadways in VT, please post.

Okay, now it's getting really dicey. SUV upsidedown in the median; emergency vehicles on scene. I-89N mile marker 17. Traffic is going about 35mph.

I think you have all heard about my new sewing machine - I am having so much fun!
my 4 year old granddaughter Skylar asked me a while ago if I would make a Christmas present this year for her favorite stuffed animal - a girl beagle named Sparky. so I made her a collar and leash. it's a colorful collar with a ring to attach the leash to and the name Sparky spelled out in small ceramic beads, like a dog tag. the leash is just dark green grosgrain ribbon doubled over and stitched together, leaving a loop for Sky to hold onto. it has a shiny gold clip to attach to the collar and is decorated with some bright flower shaped buttons - she is a girl dog, after all, she needs some girly bling!! Skylar is going to flip out, she loves that 'dog' so much!!! I also made her a puffy comforter for her favorite doll.
I'm making her 6 yr old sister Amber a handbag out of an old jeans jacket that is covered in copper colored beading - it's already lined so all it will take is a little creaative cutting to easily make a lined bag and I think she'll flip too! I got that sewing machine just in time - I make a lot of things that aren't sewn too, but I just love to sew things for the kids!
next project is hand-milled soap for everyone - that is my second-favorite thing to do and the kids and the moms love it!

IT'S SNOWING HERE! Finally, and I hope we get lots, though the weather forecasts say between 4 to 8 inches.
I listened to Obama's speech in New Town on NPR and it was moving, honest, visionary. He is the best president in my lifetime with respect to ethics, intelligence, vision, and morality. I so hope he can be successful in helping us change, which is something that must happen.
I've felt so sad, and I imagine that the whole country has. If this isn't the tipping point for weaposn control, I can't imagine that anything would be. When our children are murdered in school, then something is terribly wrong.
A colleague from our US/China Teacher Exchange posted an article wherein a madman in China injures 18 children with a knife and a madman here murders 20 children with guns. There's difference.

Sorry about the absence--never managed to get online at all yesterday. Compensated for by the fact I've learned to play the DVD feature on Clementine. Have watched the whole 12 hours of "The House of Cards" in the past two days.
Been working on pulling together the makings for the spirit trees, which I dropped 18 months ago. Being more complicated that I thought, but may get the grands' trees done, at least.
