I'm home! So sorry I didn't blog while there...my iPhone wouldn't locate the blog for me. Argh!
But I am uploading photos and will have the link for you shortly.
It was a good day, a good event, an excellent speech by Howard, and I finally got a photo with him.
The upshot of the day is that he really isn't planning to run. He highlighted all the good things and spoke to the good of the generation that will follow.
David Stephenson was there and videotaped it! He plans to have it up on YouTube and at ProgressiveSoup. I'll let you know when I have any links to it!!
This would be the weekend of the tenth anniversary of me getting a computer, and getting on line. Lost it a week later when a lightening strike blew my modem up, lol! Spent five weeks getting it replaced. Four waiting for the replacement, and opening up the computer and trying an install, and a week finding an actual repair guy who fixed it. (I wasn't wrong: the replacement was never have fit, according the the repair guy.) Computer guy had worked on the army's computer back in the 40's, and had his own ISP, which I signed up for. But he didn't have an accelerator like earthlink did, so I seldom used him. Good thing: he got hacked in September, and every single one of his customers but me got a really nasty virus. I hated IE from the beginning, and was a firebird beta user by October. By November, I was using one of the nightly builds (which fixed a problem I'd been having). Stuck with it till they killed it and became firefox the next year.
I knew about Howard in June, but was watching Kerry and Edwards. Got invited to a viewing of a Vermont TV tape near the first of October. Half way through, I knew Howard was my guy. Went home with phone lists, bumper stickers, signs. Discovered the blog in December. Became an avid lurker after the new years, and was writing letters daily. The blog's first attraction for me was that they'd trade extra letters to write, lol! If recall correctly and I think I am, wrote and mailed 556 letters for Howard before he dropped out. Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, New Mexico, maybe Arizona. Later did some phone banking -- Indiana maybe? Where it became perfectly clear that the scream had done awful damage: no matter how often one explained what had happened, the listener had "the evidence of my own eyes. . . . " Did a couple of dismal meetups in Harrisonburg. Voted for Howard in June, and spent the rest of the season working for Kerry. Still in love with Howard Dean.
There was once a great discussion on the Kerry blog of his spongeworthiness. As I recall, Maryscott O'Connor came out for it, lol! I was thinking then, as now, about Howard's, lol! Judy's a very good sport to lend her hunny to the Crushies.
puddle, it was super hard to hear when the band was playing. I thought David Stephenson said he'd post the video at "Progressive Soup." Have you ever heard of it? I can't seem to locate it online. Are my ears older than I thought? LOL!
Thanks for all the photos Listener, and the rest for comments. HD STILL has that heart-stopping smile doesn't he? Looks as though he is having a great time. Is Judy still practicing medicine? Their children must be adults by now. I remember being impressed during an NPR interview when he said his family was his first priority.
Kerry was a horrible candidate and I think the fix was always in for him from the DNC. They denied it during a phone call for funds. I didn't believe it then and still don't now.
We didn't have a President Dean, but we still have him looking healthy and happy and still willing to speak out-- and we DO need that!

Shirlee, yes, Judy Steinberg Dean is still practicing medicine. Her office is in the same building as my optometrist's. Today I told her I have come so close to calling and seeing if she is still taking new patients. She said she loves being a doctor. She also said their daughter is about to turn 29 and their son is about 27. How time has flown! My kids were all 20-something when the campaign began, and now they're all 30-something. Judy is so nice. They both were easy to talk with.
I have never seen Howard so relaxed in all the 22+ years I've known of him. I couldn't wish another run upon him. BUT...I sure wish we could be rallied by his voice and idears more often. What might that look like?
puddle my brother is holding a string of fish, as I recall that one is a pickerel. if you could see it close up, you would see me standing on my tippy toes and trying to smile thru clenched teeth from the horror of holding it, my Dad wanted to make sure that people could see how big it was in the photo, LOL!

Thanks for the great photos. Jo, Puddle, listener, Shirlee, Barb, it's poignant to reflect on the Dean campaign. He's an extraordinary person and still needed. Whatever role he takes, I will be grateful to him. He has already contributed so much. Without his efforts, we might not have elected President Obama.
Another hot dry day here. It's like it was last summer so far with the only difference being 4 feet of snow in May.
I was standing with Howard yesterday when a woman came up and commented to him that his candidacy turned the tide in this country and we are so grateful for all he did that ultimately got us a Democrat in office again. I concurred wholeheartedly. Dean replied that if we get a Republican in the White House again it is going to be devastating to this country.
Heat's gonna get to me pretty soon. Somehow it bothers me more the older I get. When I was little, I remember wondering what the grownups were talking about. . . .
Same here, Puddle-- only it is the opposite--the cold. Has to do with the RA I think. I haven't really been warm since 1987. Humidity can get me once in a while-- but basically a sense of being chilly presides like the Ice Queen.

But an old Native saying/being about not fighting (cold/heat/pain), letting it wash through you and become you. Which works. *Sometimes.*
Thanks for the reminder about washing through and over --I can do that with pain, can't quite imagine it with cold, but may give it a try. Had heard the story about the guy in the ice water-- my thought always--just plumb crazy. Was married to an ice fisherman for 37 years, heard plenty of tales of bravado--or exaggeration about ice!

David was taken by ambulance to the hospital but got better slowly and signed himself out. David says he's okay now...thinks it was something he ate. Maybe. My stint as a chaplain on the cardiac units at that same hospital makes me wonder.

A little muggy here, but still getting heavy sundown showers--enough for emergency alerts for flooding. We can use them. I am learning from the physical therapist the proper way to open and get through the several doors before I am out of the building. Wonderful tip I had never known about. The door is easiest held open in the area close to the hinge! One can then move along it with the body until clear. NOW, did I never learn that principle about the hinge in high school physics? Was it taught only to the boys? Do you all know it? Or do I just have a leaky brain for mechanical ideas? Probably the latter.
Shirlee...I was always taught to keep my hands away from the hinges, so I never tried it!

Today was wild! Huge thunderstorms, water ponding up on roadways and closing some, including a section of the interstate. Drove the two miles to work at the Library with a seriously black storm front moving in. I saw a wall cloud just as I got there. Made it in the door just as the deluge hit. My coworker's official weather station showed that for a brief period the rain was so heavy that it was falling at the rate of 14.77" per hour! So glad that didn’t last too long!! This year Burlington has had 22.36" of precip, whereas normal is 15.37". This month alone (so far) they’ve had 7.09" of rain, whereas normal for the month is 3.06". We get a bit more rain out here in Jericho. For example, today Burlington got 1.13" of rain while we got 2.48"!
yes listener this is some crazy weather we are having and it isn't going away for a while! stay safe! there was a funnel cloud in Essex yesterday.

some good news! Dem Ed Markey won the special election to fill Kerry's Senate seat! yay MA!!!
saw the ortho yesterday, it's a wonderful faility, everything ortho under one roof. x-rays were all good, it is the de Quervains so they gave me an injection of cortisne - AFTER i thought abiut it for quite a bit and actually cried when the doc went to prepare for it. the one and only time I got an injection in my wrist 11 years ago the doc hit a nerve and it incresed my pain dramatically for the next 5 to 6 weeks so I was really scared ro pieces to have another one. i honestly didn't want to do it but I wanted the pain to go away more and the truth is after all this time looking for a job if I don't get some relief from this I won't be able to DO any job anyway. she did great, it is painful and swollen today but that should go away in a few days. please excuse as my typing may be worse than usual!
I haven't been able to wear the nice padded brace I got a few weeks ago, it puts too nuch pressure on the most painful area, but the old hard, hand-molded braces I have from 11 years ago felt better but are falling apart so she actually got me in for a new one, I only had to wait 5 mins. lo and behold the woman who molded my brace was the same lady who di the others 11 years ago! she is a family friend and had her own biz in hand therapy back then but now works in this beautuful ortho facility that is part of our local hopspital. we caught up on life and I have to say the whole visit went really well, noe I'm just praying that the injection brings some relief.
new thread - please feel free to keep posting on this Howard thread if you like, I just wanted to post some pics from the storms and didn't want them buried in a thread. ;-)

did you forget an 's' in his signoff? before the 'v'? that's how I remember it but the memory fools me sometimes!!
I suspected it was David as well. Glad he is better and I hope that he gets himself to his dr and gets checked out.

Heavy, soggy, warm day here. Too warm. Have had the A/C on since two, and it's helping. Not really ready to have it on all the time, though.
