Oh, yes, Thank you, Puddle, for posting the lyrics of Joni Mitchell.
Traveling to New Orleans, it was almost overwhelming to see how urban we have become: interstate highways with thousands and thousands of vehicles, commercial establishments, empty land along the highways, all the technology and machinery that has been developed and produced in the last hundred years. Where is the calm, the solace, the feeling of being a part of the land?
I wonder what the next hundred years will bring.
A grin here and apology for posting the poem Reminder, which, of course, I now remember posting when I found out it had been published. I'm getting dotty, I think.
Thank you, Puddlefor the lovely new thread. Your images are always so beautiful, keep wondering hmmm, now where did friend Puddle find this?
I am off today to my RA doc---likely getting a cortisone injection in my shoulder. Not my favorite activity, but sure does help with inflammation and pain!
Sunny and seventies today!!!! Finally. Love to all.
Pat, no apologies for gifting us a lovely poem twice. Mine, for getting distracted with the facebook thing rather than commenting on what a fine thing it is.
Got some excellent, hard, ice-based wind today. Clearly though spring is taking place--iris swords almost a foot tall now, and the phlox rosettes nearly four inches across.
"Searching beneath anxiety, one will find fear. And beneath fear hurt will be discovered. Beneath the hurt will be guilt. Beneath the guilt lie rage and hatred. But do not stop with this, for beneath the rage lies frustrated desire. Finally beneath and beyond desire, is love. In every feeling, look deeply. Explore without ceasing. At bottom, love is." ~ Gerald G. (Jerry) May
Something to think about in your quote, Listener. Thank you.
RA doc decided to drain fluid from my shoulder before giving the cortisone injection. She got two huge vials of really nasty looking fluid to be sent off for various tests. She said she could have gotten three times as much. Then came the cortisone shot. Just reporting what happens with severe, advanced RA:(. Love to all.
Shirlee, I'm sorry your RA is a problem. I hope there is a remedy. A thought and prayers your way, and keep us apprised.
Listener, I needed to read your message at least several times. I read on Facebook that One in three of us experiences depression, anxiety, fear. Not surprising. Life takes courage, resilience, trust, and faith.
Still raining here and it was supposed to be sunny. The bears are back. I just rolled the composter back up the hill to its usual position. That had to be a big bear. I used my knees and arms to roll it a foot at a time.
Thank you, Puddle, for your sweet words, and for your expertise and help with Facebook. It's a gift to have friends like you all.
Pat, thank you for your wishes. I have been dealing with this since 1987 when it hits like a ton of bricks. I am inclined to think that some cases are caused by a virus, that is exactly the way it felt. Medicine for treatment are vastly improved since then and I am quite stable. However, once in a while some body part will present a problem. So, that just means a few more trips to RA doc between every three month checks. It is so good to have you all here--AND been able to spend two different lunch times with our beloved Puddle. A Joy!
Low grade, on-going worry here about grandson--20 year old black male in Baltimore, trying to get through finals. He says he's fine. Trying not to imagine how easily that could change.
Yes, it is a worry. Six years ago one of my granddaughters married a beautiful black man and they have two beautiful daughters ages one and four. Lorenzo is in the police force in the area. They bought a home in the suburbs two years ago...and he says he still gets strange looks taking the older one for a walk in the neighborhood.
Official announcement will be, as expected, on Thursday, April 30th:
Bernie *is* campaigning for President! :-D
I will be volunteering for his campaign in Vermont. There is less chance of him winning than there was for Howard, but I believe it's still worth helping, because Bernie is articulating our concerns so well, and won't let the other candidates get by with ignoring the issues. Go Bernie Go!
Vermont offers another well-spoken candidate into the mix. As Kipling would write of a new member entering the wolf pack: "Look well! Look well, oh wolves!"
lovely photo puddle! I used to love to be swung like that!
thank you for sharing your photos on the lake listener, what a beautiful day to be out and about! where is that sundial? it looked like Overlook park in South Burlington. I love going out on the causeway, those enormous chunks of marble that they used to create the old railroad bed are fabulous! great views all around too. looks like Bill had a most excellent b-day!
spring is really here ladies, it has been in the 50s which seems like a heat wave as it is still dropping to 30s at night but will be into the 60s going forward. I have so much to do in my yard and can only tackle a tiny bit at a time, but the warmer it gets, the easier it gets!
May will be here tomorrow, oh how I love May, let the greening begin!!
Yes, Puddle, a darling picture, we can feel the children swinging.
Hi Jo. It's always good to hear your thoughts. Yes, let May begin.
Listener, it's wonderful that Bernie's running. I read an article yesterday about Hillary agreeing to work with Elizabeth Warren to fight a bill giving banking way too much power. Then when the bill was reintroduced, Hillary voted for it.
This reminds me of our own Becky Markey whom we worked hard to elect as a representative. Then, she wasn't going to vote for Obama Care. With those kinds of waffling, and for some of us, betrayals, we lose our will to support that person. I've very mixed feelings about Hillary and will happily support Bernie.
Al Jazeera America had an aricle (can't find it, it was quoted in a video from the Yong Turks) that pointed out that all of Hill's biggest donors are the banksters, HUGE amounts of money and that Bernie's are labor unions and individuals. it was quite a stark comparison, this will surely come out and may make it easier for some to get behind Bernie.
Pat, I disagree with Hillary on a number of issues, and have never felt able to trust her judgment since she stayed with Bill despite his philandering. But I wonder if there is any chance that the reason she could say she would fight against the banking bill and later voted for it might be that something in the bill got changed to her liking before the vote. That sort of thing happens all the time. Of course, I don't have details on this one.
But Bernie is so real and consistent! The political machine will run amok over him as it does over all the good people. But I really do think he knows what he's getting himself into, more than Howard Dean knew what to expect. I truly admire him for picking up Dean's baton and going forward with it. Howard only ever ran to bring the issues to the fore, and that's what Bernie is doing. This time, though, we have social media!! Go Grassroots!
I signed up today to do mailings and data entry at Sanders HQ!
Your photos, Listener, are beautiful. I've appreciated them on Facebook.
With respect to the article about Hillary, it is in this week's May 4 New Yorker. While if a bill has changes and the candidate we are supporting chooses to vote for it, yes, that's okay.
The article is "The Virtual Candidate: Elizabeth Warren's hold over the Democrats" by Ryan Lizza. It's really about Elizabeth Warren. What a fighter she is and an intellect!
Here from the article "In the late nineteen-nineties, Congress was trying to pass a bankruptcy bill that Warren felt was written, essentially, by the credit-card industry....Warren targeted the one person in the White House who she believed could stop the legislation: the First Lady. They met alone for half an hour, and, according to Warren, Hillary stood up and declared, "Well, I'm convinced. It is our job to stop that awful bill. You help me and I'll help you." In the Administration's closing weeks, Hillary persuaded Bill Clinton not to sign the legislation, effectively vetoing it.
But just a few months later, in 2001, Hillary was a senator from New York, the home of the financial industry, and she voted in favor of a version of the same bill. It passed, and George W. Bush signed it into law, ending Warren's ten-year war with a crushing defeat."
Interestingly, I don't fault Hillary for standing by Bill after the intern affair. To me, she had the courage not to involve the country in their marital life, and to take the humiliation with dignity and a sense that personal and public were separate categories. My sister-in-law feels the way you do, but I actually respect Hillary very much for her decorum and principles.
It will be interesting to see if Hillary campaigns well this time. Please no breaking into tears in the middle of a restaurant! Glad to see Bernie in the primary. Should be an interesting political season.
Friday and expecting Brenda bearing dinner...and checking on her Mom :). Cloudy and damp today, tomorrow sunshine and 60's--good walking weather!
Two days since a post from Puddle. Hope she is just enjoying one of her favorite series. Love to all.
Yay Listener for being able to help out with Bernie at headquarters!!!
interesting views on Hillary. I can respect her if she has had changes of heart on issues. I know I've personally evolved over the years and understand that that can happen. She seems to be actually listening to people (and, obviously, listened to Elizabeth!) and taking their opinions seriously.
And, based on my human observations, I don't have any issues with staying with Bill. People can grow and become better and they seem to have a good strong relationship.
So glad to see you all here. Have a grand time with daughter, Shirlee. And, yes, it's time for Puddle to check in.
For me it isn't even concern about her keeping her foolish husband. It's more a deep nagging in my intuition that I have learned to trust. I can't really articulate it well yet. But I think it's that I was never able to trust her judgment, to trust that she wasn't all too willing to do something (whatever it may be) for political reasons rather than just because it's a good idea. I suppose it's exactly that it was a private matter (and should be), but we really don't know what motivated her to stay with Bill. It's not our business. But how she makes decisions IS our business. There's the rub.
Holler when you come up for air, puddle dear. Love you….all. ♥
Number of things going on here. Just finished up all of West Wing, and started The Sopranos, again. Facebook's actually working for me for the time being and I have interesting friends. Stayed up all night in order to be able to give Nancy an early morning river level report so she could go grocery shopping in town.
AND--Weather Underground, my go to weather page is killing the classic version in three days, and the one they wish me to use won't load, so I have to find another, altogether. Talk about stupid corporate decisions. . . .
Yep, so good to hear from Puddle. Let Nancy know that Her more than neighborliness for you is much appreciated in these quarters!!!!
Finally, finally a lovely day with no docs, etc. and time to check up on the goings on at the bookstore!!! Last evening they were having a big Melville Celebration. I will see if they are back in shape today!
Just realized why my choices of PWS (personal weather stations) has diminished from nearly twenty a month ago to five now: the PWS operators are withdrawing their free services to protest the murder of classic.
Aha! Thanks for the link, puddle. Go weather grassroots! :-)
The Kitties had a perfect vet checkup this morning , and we are off to the Sailing Center for the annual Hardware Day when the trophies are given out for last Summer's races. Fun!!
I don't have a problem with Hillary's soul. But I do have a problem with the fact that she's a rePublican. As is Big Dawg. As rePublicans go, they're on the side of the Gods, and if she's nominated, I'll vote for her, just like I did for her hubby, because she (and he) are light years better than anyone else on their bench. But I reserve the right to grumble. In heaven, Bernie and Warren run. Clearly, we're not there yet.
Well said, Puddle. I agree. I am tired of the Clintons, the people in Congress who have held office forever. We need new ideas, new energy, and Bernie's principles, his call for serving the Common Good resonates highly with me.
We have so many complex issues that need attention, and Congress and politicians continue to reward money and power, ignore infrastructure, climate change, peace, diplomacy, and a global culture we learn about daily.
But, as pragmatists, if the best we can do is Hillary Clinton, yes, I'll vote for her.
Turns out that Bain Capital has a stake in the weather channel which owns Weather Underground, and they seem to be cleaning house prior to putting it on the market. We are fools to think that rePublicans don't make a huge difference in our lives even if we don't elect 'em.
yes Puddle, rePublicans do make a huge difference in our lives. Bain Cap is one of the worst. SO glad Romney got defeated.
I did it! I resigned from the board and dropped the Demogram in their laps. Burt has been having some heart issues these past few weeks and I want to be able to concentrate on helping him. I still have the Treasurer, but as soon as I put it all back together, I'll be dropping that as well. I have to concentrate on downsizing and looking for our new home. That will be considerably smaller than this huge one. AND no yard. this yard takes up a great deal of time and money and both are going to be in short supply when I retire.
My retirement plans are to work on marketing Burt's books and getting all of my photos into digital form and put them on thumb drives for all the kids and grandkids.
Add bumpy, congested throat, runny nose and body aches. Bleah.
My throat was even a little itchy earlier, and I started to hope it was an emerging allergy, which would indicate that my immune system has strengthened. Then I got the fever, so surmise it's just a stupid ol' virus. Sigh.
Pump in high dosage of Vitamin C and water and rest!!!
What was the tricksy thing I had to work through to be able to post? Really the blog or some weird Apple thing on my I-pad?
Always interesting to hear about retirement plans. Only advice I have after 22 years of it--enjoy, enjoy, but be prepared for CHANGE! Some things can't be controlled--shrinking in height is one-- which can mean adjustment in most parts of life!
Small differences can make one feel hugely different. I remember in China, at the Tianjin Hotel, that the silverware was HUGE. Took the longest time to adjust to. Noted that the silverware on Downton is the same. It was a hotel in the British section of Tianjin.
Shirlee, is it possible you got signed out by accident and had to do the captcha?
Could be...sometimes my fingers don't do what I expect. Hadn't thought of that, thanks Puddle.
I think I am beginning to follow you, Puddle...only audiobooks. I just recently finished The Hobbit for the third time at least. Then made my way through LOTR. Suddenly had an overwhelming desire to hear hobbit voices again...so there it is on my bed with DVD player etc. along with favorite CDs! NOT getting out of bed just because I can't sleep!
We walked to Cafe Mogador for dinner, and rounding the corner, an old man in a doorway gave us a thumbs up and an "Alriiiiiiiiight!" He looked like Mafia to me, and I was wearing the hat you brought me from Dublin, and the scarf. And you were holding my hand, and I was holding yours.
Weeks later, waiting for the crosstown bus, bitter cold, a street person came with a song, and a rap. You reached in your pocket, and handed him a bill, without looking at the number. And I gave him a kiss in return for stretching our two years into forty.
Later, as I was reading, you passed by, in your underwear, and stopped to say "I never loved you more, or more deeply than when you kissed that street person." Nor I, my love, nor I.
that's beautiful puddle. more than beautiful. tears here, heart-filling tears. <3
So glad that you are feeing better listener. I'm loving this crazy weather and hope you are getting a bit of sun too! I just walked to the corner store and the sun is HOT already, I hear the humidity will be increasing so will shut things up to keep the cool in, soon. Pushing 90 again today, we really did jump from winter to summer, LOL! There's still at least 4 feet of snow on the mountaintop, we are so lucky this has been a slow thaw.
Glad that you are handing over the reins Barb, what a lot of work. Good luck with your clearing out and your move.
Shirlee it sounds like things are going well, sending blessings for your improving health and happiness!!
Pat, I am thankful for your updates on your mountain's flora and fauna - what a crazy year for weather you are having too - and your poems, please keep them coming!!
All is well here. I am cleaning up the yard slowly but surely, what a lot of leaves I have!! I fill a cart, dump them out in my little woods and scrape off the old leaves to get to this wonderful leaf mold from 17 years of dumping them in piles, it helps improve the sandy front yard that I have, grass isn't doing so well so I have been slowly making it into gardens over the last 8 years, with mostly native plants that can survive without watering when it's dry. I can't do much at a time, nothing like I could just a few short years ago, but am very grateful that I can do anything at all! My next door neighbors who moved in a couple of summers ago are retired and love to work in the yard and they op over now an then to lend me a hand - that's so lovely of them!! They know how much I love my gardens and they enjoy them as well. I can't do much for them but do give them a variety of my perennials and they are enjoying spreading the gardens to their side of the fence!!
Love to all. Have a happy mother's day this weekend ladies!!
Next week I will begin working for Bernie! I got an email from a guy at Bernie HQ, which is at 110 Main Street Burlington, on the 4th floor. If I hadn't been sick this week, I could have gone in today to help with mailings and data entry. But next week works. I am looking forward to it!!
It has been so dry that I turned on the sprinkler today, to water the garden along the fence (which is further than my hose easily reaches). The Chickadees chattered and screamed in utter delight (!!!) as they showered themselves, flying though the spray. Birds definitely express delight! I wished I'd turned it on sooner. :-)
Ah, puddle, I too love you for kissing the street person…for thinking of it in the first place, and letting your heart lead.
{{{ Peace * Love * Freedom * Happiness }}}
And I love you for loving Edwin when his life really needed that, and being for him to the last…and still being there for him. For all you know he is right beside you. Oh that we had eyes to see through the veil.
{{{ JO! }}} I love your gardens and it makes my heart glad that your neighbours lend a hand! Holler if it starts to get ahead of you.
Barb, have I said how tickled I am for you that you are leaving certain things behind? Wonderful! There is life after letting go of stressful jobs. It's the difference between having to flap your wings all the time and getting to glide. SOAR!
Still coughing today, and a rough night last night. I foolishly went to sleep without taking meds first. I suspect a mild sinus infection and some lung congestion. It's only an issue when I lie down, but I've been bringing up just a little green stuff, so I'm watching it closely. I do feel fathoms better for all that, though. My energy is coming back, slowly but steadily. I am optimistic. And! I am off to paint on the back porch before the day gets any hotter. Don't' get too excited, though. I'm painting the porch itself, not an oil painting. ;-)
Oh dear, Puddle, such beautiful poetry, joyful and lasting. The story of yours and Edwin's love will stay with us all our lives.
Jo, loved your report on your gardening. I picture you in my mind and the flowers and plants. Your gratitude is beautiful as well.
Listener, take good care of yourself. These sinus infections can be nasty. Rest, juice, vitamin C, and more rest. We're glad you are working for Bernie. Thank you.
Barb, glad you are going to help your husband and give yourself a respite from all the stress of being involved in the party.
We've had rain here for about 8 days, flooding a possibility. Puddles in the driveway, our access road full of potholes, deep mud, and running rivulets. And, more tomorrow and snow on Sunday.
David was ill here for three days with stomach aches. It seems to have dissipated now, but I find myself so frightened and anxious and I tell myself to be courageous and strong, but I don't think I am. Thank you for being here, dear friends.
Pat--I truly believe courage appears when we NEED it. Ahead of possible/probable events it may seem distant.
We are having some light, typical pre-storm winds from the early tropical disturbance off the coast. We are about four hours from the coast. Expect more wind and rain.
Interesting nature alert. I have a crow's nest in the shrubbery outside my living room window. I can see the Mama fly in and out--feeding young'uns I think.
Rain has stopped for a while here; wind coming up.
Thoughts your way, Listener. My son had maybe the same virus, lost his voice for a few days.
My older son called today saying he feels ill, so will put off Mothers' Day celebration for the week after. Changes in weather seem to bring on viruses. Wonder why.
Thank you, Shirley. I hope I will have courage when it's needed. I feel great anxiety, it's visceral, a hollowing feeling in my stomach. I tell myself that every day is a gift, to find the joy in moments, to engage in something that requires creativity, if it's only reading or thinking.
Pat, the owner of the bookshop I worked at has had arthritis in her hands for many years. She takes a medication for it, and has her blood tested twice a year to ensure the med is still safe. It seems to be going well…though I cannot recall what med she takes!
puddle…SOOOO glad the river didn't rise!!
Wednesday was cool and sunny here. It was also the day I offered my first ever Skyped spiritual guidance meeting. What I need to work out is how to look at the screen for so long (up to two hours), when it's really just a few feet away. It's hard on the eyes.
Thursday will be sunny and somewhat warmer. In the morning I am meeting the Art League for a ramble at a museum, then delivering home made gift certificates to the bookshop. If the owner is there I'll ask what she recommends. I have heard that Fish Oil helps.
In the afternoon I will be working at Bernie HQ!! Stay tuned!

Yes, Gorgeous. Thank you, Puddle.
Still raining here. If it ever stops, the wildflowers should be profuse,
Shine Dean Shine!
Oh my, how lovely! Thank you!
I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
I'm going on down to Yasgur's farm
I'm going to join in a rock 'n' roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
I'm going to try an' get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Good Morning,
Rain predicted, skies a mass of clouds.
Well, soon another political season upon us.
Hope she is
just enjoying one of her favorite series.
And, yes, it's time for Puddle to check in.
much love to you all.
Pat and Barb,
For me it isn't even concern about her keeping her foolish husband.
Talk about stupid corporate decisions. . . .
puddle's on the blog; all's right with the word. :-)
puddle, have you sent a message to WU about your dial-up issues? Maybe they'll be able to grandmother you in.
Yep, so good to hear from Puddle. Let Nancy know that
Her more than neighborliness for you is much appreciated in these quarters!!!!
Finally, finally a lovely day with no docs, etc. and time to check up on the goings on at the bookstore!!! Last evening they were having a big Melville Celebration.
I will see if they are back in shape today!
Take good care all. Love you.
Just realized why my choices of PWS (personal weather stations) has diminished from nearly twenty a month ago to five now: the PWS operators are withdrawing their free services to protest the murder of classic.
Here's the link to the discussion: http://classic.wunderground.com/blog/admin/comment.html?entrynum=5
Agree with you, Puddle! You expressed my feelings, perfectly! ThankYou. Have a lovely Sunday all.
Hi folks,
Well said, Puddle.
Warm but cloudy day today.
Here's where to get your Bernie Sanders tee shirt. I ordered mine in white because I think the flag looks better that way. :-)

Are you sitting down?
It hit 82F here today!
My new weather page: http://www.weatherforyou.com
My retirement plans are to work on marketing Burt's books and getting all of my photos into digital form and put them on thumb drives for all the kids and grandkids.
much love to you all, I'm off to work.XOXO
100.9F
Me, not the weather. :-(
Add bumpy, congested throat, runny nose and body aches. Bleah.
My throat was even a little itchy earlier, and I started to hope it was an emerging allergy, which would indicate that my immune system has strengthened. Then I got the fever, so surmise it's just a stupid ol' virus. Sigh.
101.5F before, but down to 100.9F now. Much more comfortable.

On my way back.
Could be...sometimes my fingers don't do what
I expect. Hadn't thought of that, thanks Puddle.
I think I am beginning to follow you, Puddle...only audiobooks. I just recently finished The Hobbit for the
third time at least. Then made my way through LOTR.
Suddenly had an overwhelming desire to hear hobbit
voices again...so there it is on my bed with DVD player
etc. along with favorite CDs! NOT getting out of bed
just because I can't sleep!
Feeling better every day!
Hurrah for apple cider vinegar!
never loved you more deeply than when
We walked to Cafe Mogador for dinner, and rounding the
corner, an old man in a doorway gave us a thumbs up
and an "Alriiiiiiiiight!" He looked like Mafia to me,
and I was wearing the hat you brought me from Dublin,
and the scarf. And you were holding my hand,
and I was holding yours.
Weeks later, waiting for the crosstown bus,
bitter cold, a street person came with a song,
and a rap. You reached in your pocket, and handed him a bill,
without looking at the number. And I gave him
a kiss in return for stretching our two years
into forty.
Later, as I was reading, you passed by,
in your underwear, and stopped to say
"I never loved you more, or more deeply
than when you kissed that street person."
Nor I, my love, nor I.
that's beautiful puddle. more than beautiful. tears here, heart-filling tears.
{{{ Peace * Love * Freedom * Happiness }}}
I'm painting the porch itself, not an oil painting. ;-)
XOXOXXX to all! ♥
Oh, Puddle, what moving words--thank you.
So good. To have you all here. Brenda gets.. or ask for
reports from the "blog ladies."
Such a lovely bunch of ladies here. I so enjoy following what you are all up to.
Lovely poem, Puddle.
YAY FOR BERNIE, Listener!!!!! I donated!
Pat, sounds like springtime in the mountains. hope it stays lovely for you.
Jo - What fun in the garden, what lovely neighbors.
And Shirlee, how great it is to hear from you and to hear that your daughters expect regular reports from the blog. Fantastic!
My computer seems to be acting up, so maybe i'll close for now and actually do some work! hahaha
much love to all you lovelies.
Everybody, please take care and be gentle with yourself. I will try to too…! I think I'm going to lose my voice yet.
I wish puddle was in my driveway. ♡
Pat--I truly believe courage appears when we NEED it.
Ahead of possible/probable events it may seem distant.
We are having some light, typical pre-storm winds from
the early tropical disturbance off the coast. We are about
four hours from the coast. Expect more wind and rain.
Interesting nature alert. I have a crow's nest in the shrubbery outside my living room window. I can see the
Mama fly in and out--feeding young'uns I think.
Love to all from your North Carolina reporter.
Take good care of yourselves.
Thank you all for the love, hugs, and companioning. You are the best!!
New wonderful Mothers' Day thread at midnight. Enjoy. Especially thought of listener. . . .
Stay tuned!
