Just been on the most bizarre journey. Right after I got that up, earthlink dropped me, and I couldn't redial. Tried for hours last night, and again today. The message was: that port is in use. Finally, I uninstalled the earthlink software, and then IT wouldn't finish loading, saying I had no modem. Unplugged/replugged the modem several times, did several system restores. Finally called India, and a nice fella with a horble accent walked me through some krezzy stuff. And it actually worked.

It was pretty steamy here this afternoon!

91F, humidity 55%, dew point 71
"Feels like 97F." Heh.
{An ice cream without guilt day!}

Maple Ginger Lemonade:
Squeeze the juice from one lemon
Add an equal amount of real Maple Syrup (the darker the better)
Add 1/4 teaspoon Ginger
Shake these together.
Add 12oz cold spring water
Shake or stir.
Enjoy iced!

Now I keep getting a message that the proxy server is refusing connections. Most of the time. If I get gone, don't send Sheriff Chuck. . . .

Still in the 90's here, but at least the sky is blue....and I saw a male Cardinal
pecking on my window yesterday...before diving Into the shrubbery there also!
I am always a little jealous of Brenda who has cardinals, robins and others year
round in her yard and driveway. It helps that there is a huge oak tree at the
edge of her driveway.

Happy day all.

puddle said...

So. Reinstalled the earthlink software, and this time it took. And the proxy message is gone.

I'm still stunned that the India help desk actually DID help. ALL previous experience with such calls has resulted in a 40 minute misunderstanding (mutual).

Hot as the hubs of hell here. Cool coming beginning of next week. Or cooler, at least for a couple of days.

There really ought to be a federal law that internet connections must work!!!

puddle said...

So true!

It's true, it's true, the crown has made it clear
The climate must be perfect all the year

A law was made a distant moon ago here
July and August cannot be too hot
And there's a legal limit to the snow here in Camelot

The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot
By order, summer lingers through September in Camelot

Camelot: Camelot
I know it sounds a bit bizarre
But in Camelot: Camelot
That's how conditions are

The rain may never fall till after sundown
By eight, the morning fog must disappear
In short, there's simply not a more congenial spot
For happy-ever-after-ing than here in Camelot

Camelot: Camelot
I know it gives a person pause
But in Camelot: Camelot
Those are the legal laws

The snow may never slush upon the hillside
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear
In short, there's simply not a more congenial spot
For happy-ever-after-ing than here in Camelot

Started raining half an hour later ..but just light rain. Sure surprised
me.

Sleep well all.

Ah, Shirlee, it was like that here for half of Friday. Your humidity tonight is 87% at the moment, with dew point of 75!, and it's still 79F. So I'm betting it was in the 80's and somewhere around 90% humidity when you took your walk. On Friday we had 80's and the humidity was at 91%. ST-ICKY! I'm just glad that when it hit 91F here on Thursday the humidity was only 51%!

GREAT poem there, puddle. :-)

puddle said...

Lol! listener--the line I remembered was: The rain may never fall till after sundown. But the law forbidding August to be too hot is good, too.

Elsewhere, blogged this, and got a great response, grin.

“Yanno, I adore KoKo. But if her handlers were to teach her to sign Bernie's entire program I still wouldn't vote for her because, well, she's a gorilla. Trump's positions are irrelevant: because, well, he's nuts.”

Way to sum up my 1000 word paragraph in 3 hilarious sentences.

Appreciation is always nice, eh?

puddle said...

Mine was actually posted a couple of hours before his. Which was cogent:

“It is obvious now that people can't actually disagree with the Trump positions.”

Dee, everyone you are arguing with disagrees with Trump’s positions (again, I mean the positions of his you agree with, not his many other positions on the exact same issues). What you’re not understanding is that explaining to people why you think Trump’s positions are good is not going to make those people think that Trump’s positions are good. If these same GOP standard positions were being delivered by a sane, honest, competent candidate that progressives believed was fit for office, they would still disagree with those positions. We know why you want a wall and mass deportations – you don’t have to explain it yet again. But progressives do not want a wall and mass deportations, for their own reasons. These are policy disagreements and that’s just that. Cruz is far saner, more honest and competent than Trump but that does not make any progressive want Cruz in office with the same policy positions as Trump, just because he doesn’t behave like Trump. As Obama explained a couple weeks ago, there are two separate issues here with Trump: his positions and his fitness for office. Obama and most progressives disagreed with Romney’s and McCain’s policy positions but thought they were perfectly fit for office. You can’t just claim we are ignoring the issues because we also see Trump as unfit for office. We see him as unfit for office AND we don’t agree with him on the issues. But the first is much scarier than the second, as a Romney or McCain presidency would have been sad and annoying for progressives but not frightening. Even if Trump was the Democratic nominee and his policy positions perfectly aligned with mine, I’d probably vote for someone else (probably not the GOP nominee unless he was also progressive somehow). Which is exactly what is happening in the GOP: many of them are more aligned with Trump than Clinton but the idea of a Trump presidency seems scarier than a Clinton presidency because of his lack of fitness for office, hence they are jumping ship.

University of San Diego--she wants to be a marine biologist, so good choice. I really feel for him because burned forever on my soul is my dad's look as I headed east (for what turned out to be pretty much forever) when I was 22. Gave him the "roots and wings" quote, but doubt that eased anything very much.

I think, no joke, that there is something very wrong with Trump's brain. I'd guess early stages of some kind of senility. Alzheimer's is a good bet because of the combative component. He's losing words I 'spect he had a few years ago: one speech he was talking about "We need head." (repeated several times) Clearly, he wanted to say, We need to think about this. We need to use our intelligence here. etc. Add that to his ghost writer's assessment of his personality, and the man's literally a walking disaster.

Steamy here. They moved the cool day prediction down the week, alas.

I vote for extreme vetting of Presidential candidates.

listener said...

Shirlee. I honestly believe he is mentally incompetent to be President. Several colleagues of mine who are psychological counselors have confirmed this suspicion as well. Whoever do we not require a psychological exam for people who aspire to the Presidency? I had to pass a rigorous psychological exam to enter the ordination process and, while that's vital, think how much less responsibility one pastor has compared with the President of the United States.

Hmmm, I wrote Whyever, and my computer changed it to Whoever. LOL!

Had an awful dream last night (nightmare?)--Trump unzipped and removed his orange krezzy suit, and revealed a normal colored guy with possible hair, kept his mouth shut and won the election. . . .

I woke up this morning and saw a white cat standing on the bed looking at me. The cat was very dirty and unknown to me. So I got up and let it out the front door, assuming it to be a stray and seeking to avoid it meeting up (any moment) with Mizzen or Spinnaker, as surely fur would fly! Next thing, I heard 8 year old VT*Grand upstairs, talking. It being that she and I were here alone, that seemed a little strange, but I figured she was muttering to herself, or maybe she had called her Mom for some reason? But no! Down the stairs she came with a young woman I've never seen, who had multiple piercings and spiked hair and rather messy clothing. The young woman told me she had come to collect the money for the book I ordered. I asked what book, and she muttered something inaudible and said it cost $150. I said, "I think we both know I never placed such an order, and you may leave my house at once." That's when I learned the white cat was hers and explained I'd let it outside. So off she went to find it. That's when my alarm went off. I tell you, it was such a vivid dream, and VT*Grand is actually here for a few days, so it took me a bit to believe it hadn't actually happened!

puddle said...

Well, lol, rather *your* dream happened than mine!

puddle said...

In view of today's statues, need to say that in the dream when he took the krezzy suit off, he was still fully dressed. . . .

Hi Friends,

Rain yesterday, rain today along with thunder and lightning. The air hasn't been good. We had a wildfire about 20 miles from us, and another about 70 miles from us has been burning sine June. It's expected to continue through October.

We've been busy here. Our highway will be in the process of repair beginning October with opening for an hour and a half in the morning and late afternoon. We'll need passes to travel it. So, we're in the process of dental appointments and other need-to-go-to-town errands. We'll adapt, I know, but until we know the details, we're stocking up on dog food, cat food, paper towels, etc.

The Trump phenomenon is horrifying. It tells us that we're just as primitive as our early ancestors in mood, emotion, willingness to be led. I do hope the American people will come through with idealism, pragmatism, and common sense.

Will shut off the computer again because of thunder and lightning. Stay well, take care. I'm glad to be here with you.

I'm nearly back! Ha! The last three days and two nights we've had VT*Grand here, and it was all I could do to keep up with her...barely! :-D Oh, but we had fun!!

Mizzen and Spinnaker did GREAT at their vet checkup today!!! We had antiphonal chanting from the back seat all the way there, like a long Psalm of lament. There were BIG dogs in the tiny waiting room, so we set the cat carriers atop chairs and stood in front of the chairs until the big dogs left. AND!! Both kitties are super healthy! Clear lungs and strong hearts!! YAYYYY!!! Given their very ill beginnings, that's extremely good news! :-) They are now rabies-safe for three more years. Mizzen didn't even hiss!! Amazing! Much quieter ride home somehow. =^. .^= =^. .^=

Much cooler yesterday and today, even without the A/C running. Blessed.

Sweet birch leaves are beginning to turn and fall, always the earliest harbingers of autumn. A relief to know that this year, too, it will come. Was beginning to wonder.

Got to wonder at Don's new helpers, their sanity and intelligence. . . . Why isn't an all-white town in Wisconsin the place to deliver a black outreach speech? And blessings on the heads of the media, which has *finally* decided to do its job. Would that they'd started a year ago. . . .

Just discovered that my banking site does not like Chrome. I've been migrating over to Chrome for two reasons, 1) it does some things really really well, and 3) Win10 HIDES Internet Explorer making it very difficult to find.

I had called the bank because i wanted to change one of my payments and it wouldn't let me. She said that it SHOULD work as I expected it to. So I thought, hmmmmmmm. Found IE and brought it up and the site worked as expected. Told the lady that she needed to pass on the problem as their site should work across all platforms. She said that my problem wasn't the only one she had come across.

Whew, but cost me a half hour of time.
