My apartment overlooks the swimming pool of the complex. This summer it has been heavily used by the 30 and 40 year olds...with a local jazz musician...likely in his sixties on the side in conversation with some of them...he has been in the area for years ...and everyone seems to know Roberto. Very nice guy. Love to all...have a good night.
Those are indeed Asters. We were in charge of the flowers for our Youngest's wedding, from bouquets to table centerpieces. We were asked to use wildflowers for an August 13th wedding, so we went to various wildflower farms here in Vermont and found a nice array of colours, dark purple Asters among them. The bride's bouquet was put together by our daughter and the bride's dear friend, made from a huge variety of flowers, as guests were invited to bring one flower for the bride's bouquet. It turned out stunningly beautiful! How Can I Treat It?
The key to managing gestational diabetes is diet and exercise. Our doctors and diabetic nurses will design a diet just for you based on your calorie needs, weight, stage of pregnancy and your baby's growth rate. In general, the diet will be low in fat and protein and high in complex carbohydrates (bread, cereal, pasta, rice) and fruits and vegetables. You will be advised to eat three meals and three snacks each day. This diet may change periodically to meet the fluctuating nutritional needs associated with your pregnancy and glucose control. We may also design a safe, effective exercise plan based on your current activity level and health. Exercises that use your upper body muscles, but put little stress on the main part of your body, will be recommended. Upper body cardiovascular exercise can have a positive effect on your glucose levels. Often your glucose levels will decrease within four to six weeks of starting an exercise program.
So your body is not handling carbs well-->eat a diet very high in carbs, and that'll fix it!! (niece was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes.)
puddle, I had Gestational Diabetes with my first pregnancy. I passed out around the 5th month and my idiot OB said "The baby probably pressed on a nerve" I've never heard of that possibility since! Ha!) A friend who was visiting several months later heard the story and suggested I get my blood sugar tested. Bingo! My blood sugar rose to 228mg/% which is why I ended up having an induced labor.
It is expected that if you have GD once you will have it with each pregnancy and possibly worse. So I had to have the 4 and 5 hour Glucose Tolerance Tests (YUGGERS!) with every pregnancy, and guess what. I never got GD again. Guess why.
Yep. I stopped eating refined sugar and watched the sweets. That's all it took.
I am hoping all good things for your niece and the baby!! When is the baby due?
I got invited to a briss, but will not be going. I am working that day (this Friday) at the Library, subbing for the Head Clerk (so I won't have to work with her! Ha!). The reason I got invited to a briss is …. our nephew and his wife had their baby on July 23rd!!
Jacob Lawrence weighed 7lbs, 6oz and is absolutely gorgeous, with some dark hair and bright dark eyes. Can't wait to meet him on August 16th!!

Puddle...add to your bat-shit list the Rite Aid pharmacy. I just called about a re-fill I had ordered last week. Answer back was they were out and would need to re-order. Got a call yesterday they had a partial re-fill....how many is that? We can give you three pills. When will your new supply be in? This afternoon or tomorrow. I just happen to have a dental appointment today...will stop by on the way home (sending my handy helper in to pick them up and ream them out...a lively ex-New Yorker who will give them a good talking to. ) Also remind them I DO need non-child proof caps because of my hands. I have been using this pharmacy for five years... they should be able to flag the account...or something. Between this one and Caremark for my RA meds...enough to drive an old lady crazy!!! Not an isolated incident!!!!! Love to all!!
Back in the mid seventies, right at the time the childproof caps were coming out, I got bitten in the night by a wasp or spider, and by morning my right hand and lower arm had swollen to a skin tight position. Fingers spread out like a fan. Drove myself to Emergency, got a diagnosis, a shot and a pretty strong antihistamine prescription. Stopped at Peoples on the way home. (driving one handed) I'm standing there, arm in a sling when they give me the pills. I didn't check the lid because I'd never had a child-proof lid. Got home. Long story short, I ended up breaking the bottom out of the bottle with a hammer! Wielded in my left hand.

Shirlee, I am totally with you on the need to flag an account! In my case it's that my doc prescribes 60oz of a cream. SO the pharmacist usually hands me a 60oz tube of it! Like I want to lug that with me all over creation, right? I have to tell them every time that I want (a) four 15oz tubes, and (b) cream NOT ointment. This was never the situation in the days when the pharmacist knew your whole family and recognized you when you came in. At least my current pharmacist knows my name. That's something.
I'm trying to decide if I should go to the Bernie event tomorrow night after all, since our son is coming to visit and he just started a new job near here on Monday.
Listener...Congratulations!!! You are one dedicated mother. Me..not so much. My theory was you make a decision..it is yours to carry through...barring an emergency. Shirlee, thinking more about it--my family of origin, largely because it was so large, always let us know that we were *expected* to go to college. It was *never* expected that it would be paid for by the parents. If we went to the UofU, then we had room and board, but tuition was ours, and ours alone, to worry about. It was one of the greatest gifts my parents made to their children. Expectations are powerful!
Some of the cabinet doors are up! We're only abut 20% done, but we've hit the knee of the learning curve. We are BOTH working tomorrow, then back to hang more doors. If needed, the rest can go up on Saturday as they move in SOOOO excited about Son, D-I-L and Grandson moving back up here!!! Grandson was born and they moved away a few months later. He's over 2 now and has a little sibling due in October :-)
YAYYYYYY!!! Bernie's coming to Seattle. on the very day of my party! Guess who's going to put the party off for one week. So far, it is scheduled for a venue that holds 10 - 11,000. I suspect that we'll blow past that in a matter of days.

I searched my system for recently added apps and they came up, they were nothing that I needed so I deleted them and after a restart the crap ads disappeared. I strengthened my online security another notch and so far, so good, it has been 3 months. ;-)

Marigold shines.
Youngest and his little family moved into their house today! We put up cabinet doors Thurs evening, Friday evening and this morning, then put up all the handles and knobs. Well, all except for two doors, which are waiting for hinges as not quite enough were ordered. SOON!
We are wiped out and planning to sleep in! Hurrah!! And I can get up and not have to wear painting clothes, for the first time in two weeks!
AND!!! VT*Grand fell off her hours today when the horse stopped short!! Yikes! She seems to be okay!! She landed on her shoulder, but can move everything with no problem when her clavicle is pressed. =Whew!=
It was a year ago that she nearly fell off but clung tightly until her Daddy was able to grab her. But that horse (a pony) had reared up and was being difficult. This one only stopped.
Home again. We came home Friday after three great days and nights. Wildflowers everywhere, only a few campers, wonderful weather. There's something about getting away from home that clears the mind, detaches from all the daily reminders and associations that take our energy. I'm still in love with Colorado, the land, the people, the sun, the space, the feeling that we humans have something to offer the earth.
This morning Molly was outside barking. I went onto the porch and called her in, but she didn't want to come. Then a deer came up to the porch. I shooed him/her away. I think Molly and the deer wanted to play.
Our access road is going to be subject to two hour closures from 7 AM to 4 PM, and then one hour closures until 7 PM for the month of August. Thus, we'll have to do errands on weekends or within those time frames, but we will have a good and safe road. Thanks to the floods in 2013 and our community electing to join the county in a Public Improvement Development, we'll get over $500,000 to improve the roads, absolutely necessary with over 700 trips a day. That wouldn't have happened if members of the community turned it down. It renews my faith in basic intelligence that 2/3 voted for it.

Needs a board position. Needs some board positions. Could you put him on the board? Pay him a salary and he'll be a good board member and be a loyal vote for the management and so forth.
I said well we're not usually in that business. But okay, let me meet the guy. I met the guy. I said I don't think he adds that much value. We'll put him on the board because - you know - we'll do a favor for this guy; he's done a favor for us.
We put him on the board and [he] spent three years. Came to all the meetings. Told a lot of jokes. Not that many clean ones. And after a while I kind of said to him, after about three years - you know, I'm not sure this is really for you. Maybe you should do something else. Because I don't think you're adding that much value to the board. You don't know that much about the company.
He said, well I think I'm getting out of this business anyway. And I don't really like it that much. So I'm probably going to resign from the board.
And I said, thanks - didn't think I'd ever see him again. His name is George W. Bush. He became President of the United States. So you know if you said to me, name 25 million people who would maybe be President of the United States, he wouldn't have been in that category. So you never know. Anyway, I haven't been invited to the White House for any things.

It was *never* expected that it would be paid for by the parents. If we went to the UofU, then we had room and board, but tuition was ours, and ours alone, to worry about. It was one of the greatest gifts my parents made to their children. Expectations are powerful!
Some of the cabinet doors are up! We're only abut 20% done, but we've hit the knee of the learning curve. We are BOTH working tomorrow, then back to hang more doors. If needed, the rest can go up on Saturday as they move in SOOOO excited about Son, D-I-L and Grandson moving back up here!!! Grandson was born and they moved away a few months later. He's over 2 now and has a little sibling due in October :-)
Much milder and cooler day today (unexpected, and unforecast!), and altogether lovely!
YAYYYYYY!!! Bernie's coming to Seattle. on the very day of my party! Guess who's going to put the party off for one week. So far, it is scheduled for a venue that holds 10 - 11,000. I suspect that we'll blow past that in a matter of days.

Yay Barb! puddle you will laugh, but until the big crowds of this primary run, Bernie always brought food and drink to the many town hall meetings that he held all around the state and the country!

Glad we are all having better weather! poor listener, she had the hottest, most humid days of the summer while doing those cabinets. Thursday you could cut the air with a knife the humidity was so high. yay for low humidity!! listener that is the best gift, all of that hard work. every day when they look at their beautiful kitchen they will feel all of the love that you put into it! so glad that son's family will be closer, it is so much fun to be around the grands!

Most frustrating day yesterday--Amazon was not letting me add anything. Finally, today, just went ahead an ordered what was there. Wish they'd stop adding banners to the top of the page: I just realized they've now got a good third of the screen covered with their dumb stuff. . . .
Not too hot today, thank goodness.
puddle, Amazon and a real estate site was doing that to me. I searched my system for recently added apps and they came up, they were nothing that I needed so I deleted them and after a restart the crap ads disappeared. I strengthened my online security another notch and so far, so good, it has been 3 months. ;-)

Marigold shines.
Youngest and his little family moved into their house today! We put up cabinet doors Thurs evening, Friday evening and this morning, then put up all the handles and knobs. Well, all except for two doors, which are waiting for hinges as not quite enough were ordered. SOON!
We are wiped out and planning to sleep in! Hurrah!! And I can get up and not have to wear painting clothes, for the first time in two weeks!
AND!!! VT*Grand fell off her hours today when the horse stopped short!! Yikes! She seems to be okay!! She landed on her shoulder, but can move everything with no problem when her clavicle is pressed. =Whew!=
It was a year ago that she nearly fell off but clung tightly until her Daddy was able to grab her. But that horse (a pony) had reared up and was being difficult. This one only stopped.
I'd say falling off her hours is something her *grandmother* does regularly, lol!
Good Morning,
Home again. We came home Friday after three great days and nights. Wildflowers everywhere, only a few campers, wonderful weather. There's something about getting away from home that clears the mind, detaches from all the daily reminders and associations that take our energy. I'm still in love with Colorado, the land, the people, the sun, the space, the feeling that we humans have something to offer the earth.
This morning Molly was outside barking. I went onto the porch and called her in, but she didn't want to come. Then a deer came up to the porch. I shooed him/her away. I think Molly and the deer wanted to play.
Our access road is going to be subject to two hour closures from 7 AM to 4 PM, and then one hour closures until 7 PM for the month of August. Thus, we'll have to do errands on weekends or within those time frames, but we will have a good and safe road. Thanks to the floods in 2013 and our community electing to join the county in a Public Improvement Development, we'll get over $500,000 to improve the roads, absolutely necessary with over 700 trips a day. That wouldn't have happened if members of the community turned it down. It renews my faith in basic intelligence that 2/3 voted for it.

Doesn't matter how many times I read this, it always tickles me, lol!
But when we were putting the board together, somebody [Fred Malek] came to me and said, look there is a guy who would like to be on the board. He's kind of down on his luck a bit. Needs a job. Needs a board position. Needs some board positions. Could you put him on the board? Pay him a salary and he'll be a good board member and be a loyal vote for the management and so forth.
I said well we're not usually in that business. But okay, let me meet the guy. I met the guy. I said I don't think he adds that much value. We'll put him on the board because - you know - we'll do a favor for this guy; he's done a favor for us.
We put him on the board and [he] spent three years. Came to all the meetings. Told a lot of jokes. Not that many clean ones. And after a while I kind of said to him, after about three years - you know, I'm not sure this is really for you. Maybe you should do something else. Because I don't think you're adding that much value to the board. You don't know that much about the company.
He said, well I think I'm getting out of this business anyway. And I don't really like it that much. So I'm probably going to resign from the board.
And I said, thanks - didn't think I'd ever see him again. His name is George W. Bush. He became President of the United States. So you know if you said to me, name 25 million people who would maybe be President of the United States, he wouldn't have been in that category. So you never know. Anyway, I haven't been invited to the White House for any things.
