Good Morning, Beautiful 13 year old. What a transformational year that is. Wishes of courage, joy, discovery, and understanding her way.
A nice day today, I think. I caught the second mouse of spring in a trap by the washing machine. We'll take the mouse to Mouse Point, a space we dubbed, in the forest off our access road. I'll leave the peanut butter and cracker when I drop him/her off.
A small poem drafted this morning to greet the day.
Just Now
Let me stretch out my arms to you, World, hold you without touching, relinquishing any idea of control, direction, gratification. You echo lives of everything animals, people, insects, plants, birds, fish and oh, the myriad musics. These are part of the buzzing in my ears, and I, so short lived in just this one moment to say, oh, how beautiful, marvelous, this heaven of life.
I commented the other day that I didn't think I could live in Oregon, Washington State, Alaska, or Siberia. I hope I didn't offend you. I was thinking of the reputation for rain and overcast skies, and of course, the cold in Alaska and Siberia. None of these weather situations appeals to me, but I know Washington and Oregon are very beautiful, and I have friends in both places. I apologize if you felt insulted.
Lovely Joy Girl...assume she must be a Puddle grand. Beautiful.
Thanks for the poetry, Pat.. Very descriptive.
Rai has ceased for a bit...hope I can get a walk around downtown today.
This is what bothers me about Hillary....an e-mail this morning stating "I will be the Democratic nominee ..." and of course asking for money. Has anyone heard that Bernie has decided to drop out?
She is just so..all about herself...I have certainly never felt that way about President Obama!
I have a niece named Joy Suzanne. Her Dad (my brother) wanted her name to be Suzanne Joy right up to the time his wife went into labor. After witnessing all his wife went through for her to be born, when the nurse asked her name, HE replied, "Her name is Joy Suzanne"! :-) I have always loved him for that. ♡
And then there is money: the young men are conned by unscrupulous friends into signing bills that cause them to be pursued by repulsive moneylenders, who are usually (not invariably) Jewish. Debt – familiar to Trollope in his youth – is as omnipresent as maidens in crinolines. Beaux are evaluated according to their annual income. Trollope made a living out of this for 30 years, precisely because he never overestimated the taste, discernment or intellect of his reading public.
Sooo, puddle. Solely upon your recommendation, I purchased the book and DVD of Brideshead Revisited. My hope is to read the book before Father's Day and give it to Bill (if I conclude by then that he would like the story). Everyone here liked it so well. Is it good for the guys too?
HAHA Puddle, funny description! Love it. What a lovely young lady on the front.
My CPA (who everyone here thinks is a Hillary supporter) volunteered and attended the Bernie rally in Vista, CA! http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/may/22/bernie-sanders-rally-vista/?track=san-diego
Thanks, puddle. Help me a little more. There is no question that Waugh is a great writer. Yet I find myself having a hard time getting "into" the book, as so far I don't much care for any if the characters in the story. Bill appreciates historical fiction, yet dislikes anything that comes across as "hooray for war." I figure the author's disenchantment with the military would suffice, and it might. But at least at first the author sounds depressed. Does the book perk up at all, or is it pretty must stay in this tone of disenchantment of the age the way The Great Gatsby does?
The war is a bookend (opening/closing)--I actually tend to think that the war is only in there at all because of the publication date, 1945) knowing the book was going to have to compete with all the war novels that were going to be coming. . . .
It is basically, tor me, a story of spiritual journeys. There is such joy in the relationship between Charles and Sebastian, and again between Charles and Julia. No one in my view of it gets it really right, but so many do try, and try. . . .
First person narrator novels are incredibly difficult to pull off if the narrator is anything other than a device/reporter. Perhaps because self-awareness is almost the last trait anyone, character or real person, has? I think Waugh did it about as well as it can be done.
It might be better to watch the series and then read the book? I wouldn't watch the movie first.
Note: I think Waugh discovers and portrays about all the major types of Catholicism I observed during my journey through. (Interestingly, he, like me, hated the vernacular mass.)
Now as I was young and easy under the apple boughs About the lilting house and happy as the grass was green, The night above the dingle starry, Time let me hail and climb Golden in the heydays of his eyes, And honoured among wagons I was prince of the apple towns And once below a time I lordly had the trees and leaves Trail with daisies and barley Down the rivers of the windfall light.
And as I was green and carefree, famous among the barns About the happy yard and singing as the farm was home, In the sun that is young once only, Time let me play and be Golden in the mercy of his means, And green and golden I was huntsman and herdsman, the calves Sang to my horn, the foxes on the hills barked clear and cold, And the sabbath rang slowly In the pebbles of the holy streams.
All the sun long it was running, it was lovely, the hay Fields high as the house, the tunes from the chimneys, it was air And playing, lovely and watery And fire green as grass. And nightly under the simple stars As I rode to sleep the owls were bearing the farm away, All the moon long I heard, blessed among stables, the nightjars Flying with the ricks, and the horses Flashing into the dark.
And then to awake, and the farm, like a wanderer white With the dew, come back, the cock on his shoulder: it was all Shining, it was Adam and maiden, The sky gathered again And the sun grew round that very day. So it must have been after the birth of the simple light In the first, spinning place, the spellbound horses walking warm Out of the whinnying green stable On to the fields of praise.
And honoured among foxes and pheasants by the gay house Under the new made clouds and happy as the heart was long, In the sun born over and over, I ran my heedless ways, My wishes raced through the house high hay And nothing I cared, at my sky blue trades, that time allows In all his tuneful turning so few and such morning songs Before the children green and golden Follow him out of grace.
Nothing I cared, in the lamb white days, that time would take me Up to the swallow thronged loft by the shadow of my hand, In the moon that is always rising, Nor that riding to sleep I should hear him fly with the high fields And wake to the farm forever fled from the childless land. Oh as I was young and easy in the mercy of his means, Time held me green and dying Though I sang in my chains like the sea.
Thank you, Puddle..I do love DylanThomas. One of my treasures is an audio book of DT reading all of his own work. Includes a wonderful section by the women who did it about getting ..and keeping Thomas on time, with his copies of his work...and keeping him sober! This is a treasure I found in the Bookstore of Allan Brilliant...founder of Unicorn Press. He is now 81, but just move his inventory into a larger shop...which is now here in Greensboro...one of my favorite places....and book dealers!
News of the day.....from Baltimore...granddaughter and husband there have a new baby girl..their third....my 9th gg!
Thanks, puddle! I'll have to OPEN the package that came to see whether I only bought the movie or the series too. Ha! I can't recall. If just the movie, then I might need to read some of the book first before I put down more cash.

Mine were an old Blockbuster return. NO packaging having to do with the series, but the disks are in fact perfect.
The movie is quite beautiful, but distorted: almost a Brideshead Mountain. Despite his own history, I really think that Waugh did NOT wish the relationship between the boys to be a homosexual encounter. In the series it is not. In the movie, it is.
It is with great sadness that I tell you of Marcia Moody's passing. Just saw it on FB
This was a picture with Marcia Moody on her 80th birthday! She was a woman of many accomplishments, including serving six terms as a representative in the NH statehouse. We had a lot of fun over the years. Unfortunately she passed away this morning after an extended illness. She will be missed by many friends. <3
I don't know if this link will actually take you to the picture https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10208052535140898&set=a.10201056788251598.1073741825.1524787765&type=3&theater
Sad day for me. Such a strong progressive. I'll miss seeing my fellow Deaniac on FB
Barb..so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend...but it sounds Like a dedicated soul to good things.
Yep.. We have a new addition to our Baltimore family. Kristen And Lorenzo are very good parents... Thanks, Puddle.
Sunny, lovely day here...expecting traveling massage therapist who arrives weekly to work on my neck....put out of kilter by the surgery I had a few years ago...just a bit after Puddle drove In to have lunch with the two from Greensboro! I go back and pull-up that photo that Brenda took of the two of us ..and Puddle used it here. Lovely day!
Super Deaniac, Rep. Marcia Moody, died today at age 80. Marcia, who threw her name into the ring when Howard Dean challenged us to run for office, was serving her sixth term in the NH House. Her fighting spirit will live on, but she will be sorely missed. ♥
Barb, I didn't pick up the whole URL, so the link didn't work, so I deleted it. listener's link does work, however, so am redirecting your thanks there, lol!
Marcia was the grandest Crushie of us all. A lovely soul.
Listener....new little girl's name is Semira Jane Williams....Semira apparently Has origins in Hebrew .....and ties to African culture both meaning blessed or fulfilled. Our mixed race family now has three girls, --Cassandra (Cassie), Gianna (Gigi) and now Semira. I think her two older sisters will shorten that! Dad, Mom and Baby look happy and contented. I think Grandma Marla has the other two in hand for a few days.
I love the 'nets. . . . In the past 24 hours, checked out the amount of neanderthal genes we carry (1 to 4%), 175,000 year old cave with prayer rings made from stalagmite pieces, the use and history of woad, Hillary's email server, Gucifer, the tomb of Aristotle. . . My mind is SO happy!!
Puddle, do you EVER sleep? Love it, Happy day all. Hoping for a walk...weather permitting.
DT's smirk is nauseous! What a contrast to our current intelligent, gracious, and excellent President. I will miss him much...even if the Dems win this long contest!
Yesterday, big scare. Some kind of giant wasp arrived, trying to dive into my computer screen. Found my fogger, and zapped him, at close hand. He just kept crawling away even under the weight of the foam. Finally smashed him with the can. One anaphylactic shock episode, twice shy. This guy was bigger than any I've ever seen or dreamed of. Have NO idea what it was, never want to see another.
That said, went to Amazon looking for a better killer. Found there are people who use raid and hot shot to kill flies and moths. (And they vote. Ergo, Trump.)
Kiddle and his pa will be arriving later today. Staying till Tuesday. My uproad visitors arrived Friday and were fairly quiet till early this morning, when they proceeded to up/down and wake the sleepy barky puppy. Well, quiet to me--they've been musicing Nancy nearly mad. . . .
“The glossy surface of our civilization hides a real intellectual decadence. There is no area in our minds reserved for superstition, such as the Greeks had in their mythology; and superstition, under cover of an abstract vocabulary, has revenged itself by invading the entire realm of thought. Our science is like a store filled with the most subtle intellectual devices for solving the most complex problems, and yet we are almost incapable of applying the elementary principles of rational thought. In every sphere, we seem to have lost the very elements of intelligence: the idea of limit, measure, degree, proportion, relation, comparison, contingency, interdependence, interrelation of means and ends. To keep to the social level, our political universe is peopled exclusively by myths and monsters; all it contains is absolutes and abstract entities. This is illustrated by all the words of our political and social vocabulary: nation, security, capitalism, communism, fascism, order, authority, property, democracy. We never use them in phrases such as: There is democracy to the extent that… or: There is capitalism in so far as… The use of expressions like ‘to the extent that’ is beyond our intellectual capacity. Each of these words seems to represent for us an absolute reality, unaffected by conditions, or an absolute objective, independent of methods of action, or an absolute evil; and at the same time we make all these words mean, successively or simultaneously, anything whatsoever. Our lives are lived, in actual fact, among changing, varying realities, subject to the casual play of external necessities, and modifying themselves according to specific conditions within specific limits; and yet we act and strive and sacrifice ourselves and others by reference to fixed and isolated abstractions which cannot possibly be related either to one another or to any concrete facts…”
Have a lovely time, puddle. (Can you see any YouTube videos from home?)
In this video, a soft-spoken Bernie supporter holds her own against a smug Hillary supporter and media person who tries to give the last word to the Hillary supporter. Quality! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg858XOTh_c
What a worthwhile and toothsome quote from Simone Weil! Thank you, richly, puddle!! It is easy to recognize that our culture wants absolutes and does not mull the subtleties, but I had not linked that situation to the lack of space for superstition. I would prefer the term "mythology" as myth speaks of our spiritual strength while superstition speaks of our spiritual weakness.
Yes, Thank you for Simone Weil's quote. Ideology is the word that reminds me of what we are experiencing in our polarized society, as if abstract principles are all, and the ones we hold are right, and everyone else is wrong. It really is a diminishing of thought, experiences, emotion, fact, understanding, and diversity.
We had a good time yesterday. My son, my daughter-in-law, our two grand girls, and my daughter-in-law's parents are kind, generous, fun to be with, and so affirming. I couldn't ask for more.
Today a beautiful sunny day, though rain predicted for this afternoon when I go walking with the mountain women. Have a good day, friends.
So, the word from California is that Bernie is drawing Yuge crowds wherever he goes to speak. As usual, he speaks to the overflow crowd first, then gives his speech. Today he simply showed up at a Memorial Day event in San Francisco, and quietly honoured veterans, not using it for political gain. He does that every year, but it surprised a photographer in CA.
While skimming through FB, someone remarked on a Hillary post that was exclaiming over how energetic she was (I wonder how many events she actually held. HAH) that Bernie was old and tired and fell asleep during a ceremony for Vets. Grrrrrr. I do not feel bad about the Hillary bashing that is going on. I've not seen anything but hostility from Hillary people.
That was an amazing crowd in Oaklamd! Sixty thousand...and the Secret Service did a great job of protecting Bernie. My conclusion--Hillary might be a practical politician...but she is NOT a people person. How can you be President..if you really don't care much for your constituents? Bill succeeded partially because he Liked people. The Obsmas ...also.. and they will be truly missed.
Seventy degree weather some clouds..a little breeze here in GSO.
Hi Friends, Shirlee, I agree. Hillary just doesn't have the amiable personality that Bill did, that Barack does. She makes harsh remarks, doesn't seem to recognize how she come across to people. I'm thinking of some pundit or commentator who remarked that Americans don't vote for people they don't like. I think there is some truth in that. Raining here.
Barb, according to Snopes, there is no proof that Bernie napped at the event. He was photographed with his head bowed, which may have been out of respect.
Thank you, Listener. That is exactly what I posted. I was so incensed at a Hillary supporter claiming that he napped that I went out and found the guy that put up 100 photos of Bernie showing him listening, reading and possibly, praying or simply bowing his head out of respect.
Today I got an appeal to contribute to Pat Leahy's campaign for Senator. Here's the response I sent:
I would love to donate to Pat, so grateful for his years of service. But first I need him to pledge to cast his superdelegate vote with the people of Vermont, for our own Bernie Sanders!! Will he, please? Hoping!
Hi Friends, Tonight we'll watch part 3 of a Roots remake. It's brilliantly done, but painful. There are four parts of the Arts and Entertainment network, each 2 and a quarter hours. They are also replaying it nightly.
Good news on Ally, Thanks for posting! Yes, between Listener and me, we are quite the sleuths and brook no nonsense when it comes to Bernie! Puddle and Pat rank right up there, too! NONE of us brook nonsense when it comes to our candidate!
Scrolling down, at the fourth from the bottom, Bernie bows head, next frame, *everyone* around him seems to have done the same. . . . Note especially the lady in the turquoise outfit--the brim of her hat is especially noticeable.
Spent a lot of time talking politics with the father of my children. Looks like he's not voting this year. He loved Romney, and he can't figure out the Turnip.
Seems that might be what my oldest daughter and her Husband will do. They are standard Repub. issue folks...not into Trump style crazy hatred for the whole world. Will be interesting if any numbers ever appear..if and when they are available.
Heard him on the radio last night, responding to Hill's speech about his not having the temperament to be Prez. Yikes! He sounded positively unhinged. More and more I just honestly think early stages of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's has a combative component that a lot of other dementias don't.

With each question, respondents were asked which of two traits were more important in children:
independence or respect for their elders;
curiosity or good manners;
self-reliance or obedience;
being considerate or being well-behaved.

Barb, I didn't pick up the whole URL, so the link didn't work, so I deleted it. listener's link does work, however, so am redirecting your thanks there, lol!
Marcia was the grandest Crushie of us all. A lovely soul.
Shirlee, does the new great grand have a name yet? Oh my goodness, I love naming! :-)
That's the series, listener!
Bernie is Fearless! :-)
On the show Jimmy Kimmel Live, Trump says he'd love to debate Bernie Sanders, for charity. Bernie accepts.

Listener....new little girl's name is Semira Jane Williams....Semira apparently
Has origins in Hebrew .....and ties to African culture both meaning blessed
or fulfilled. Our mixed race family now has three girls, --Cassandra (Cassie),
Gianna (Gigi) and now Semira. I think her two older sisters will shorten that!
Dad, Mom and Baby look happy and contented. I think Grandma Marla has
the other two in hand for a few days.
Seventeen words that spelled trouble for Hillary Clinton

Wonderful, Shirlee! What beautiful names they all have! ♡
I wonder if her sisters will call her Semmie, Mira or Mimi! :-)
Just finished the second 26 hours of Pallisers. In fairness, I did cry both times when Glencora died. So that's sumpin, eh?
Interestingly, the time period seems to cover, about the same as GWTW--starts with stovepipe hats and hoop skirts, and ends with bustles.
Excellent article, Listener. Thanks
What a contrast to our current
intelligent, gracious, and excellent President. I will miss
him much...even if the Dems win this long contest!
Love to all.., happy Saturday.
You're welcome, Barb!
Good Morning,
Off today for barbecue with son and his family. A beautiful day, sunny, few clouds, green everywhere.
Have a good day, friends.
Happy holiday, all!
Morning,all!
Well, quiet to me--they've been musicing Nancy nearly mad. . . .
Simone Weil:
They just arrived--long day for everyone already!
Hope your day was special, Pat!
Have a lovely time, puddle. (Can you see any YouTube videos from home?)
In this video, a soft-spoken Bernie supporter holds her own against a smug Hillary supporter and media person who tries to give the last word to the Hillary supporter. Quality!

Good Morning,
Yes, Thank you for Simone Weil's quote.

I so very much want this man to be our President!!! I want Bernie more than I wanted Howard. C'mon, California!!!
Sixty thousand...and the Secret Service did a
great job of protecting Bernie. My conclusion--Hillary might be a practical politician...but
she is NOT a people person. How can you be President..if you really don't care much for
your constituents? Bill succeeded partially because he Liked people. The Obsmas ...also..
and they will be truly missed.
Seventy degree weather some clouds..a little breeze here in GSO.
Love to all.
Hi Friends,
Shirlee, I agree.
He was photographed with his head bowed, which may have been out of respect.
http://www.snopes.com/bernie-sanders-napping-memorial-day/
Thank you, Listener. That is exactly what I posted. I was so incensed at a Hillary supporter claiming that he napped that I went out and found the guy that put up 100 photos of Bernie showing him listening, reading and possibly, praying or simply bowing his head out of respect.
http://imgur.com/gallery/vd8VX
The man certainly has more stamina than I do
I also noticed that there were no more posts about it after that. HAH!
Good for the blog sleuths! Thank you!
Rock on, Barb!! :-D
Hoping!
Hi Friends,
Tonight we'll watch part 3 of a Roots remake. It's brilliantly done, but painful. There are four parts of the Arts and Entertainment network, each 2 and a quarter hours. They are also replaying it nightly.
Well, off to watch.
Ally Update at baby!
Good news on Ally, Thanks for posting! Yes, between Listener and me, we are quite the sleuths and brook no nonsense when it comes to Bernie! Puddle and Pat rank right up there, too! NONE of us brook nonsense when it comes to our candidate!
Happy day to all you lovely ladies. mucho love!
http://www.snopes.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/bernie-sanders-sleeping.jpg
They are standard Repub. issue folks...not into Trump style crazy
hatred for the whole world. Will be interesting if any numbers ever
appear..if and when they are available.
Happy day to all.
Heard him on the radio last night, responding to Hill's speech about his not having the temperament to be Prez. Yikes! He sounded positively unhinged. More and more I just honestly think early stages of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's has a combative component that a lot of other dementias don't.
New thread!!
