Been having a heluva time trying to post. (Three days of trying so fair) Nothing will load. Finally stole a draft of Jo's from December 1013, had no pictures or text, so changed the time and post time. . .

Sorry, Jo. And thank you!!

The First words I heard this morning, when Bill's radio alarm (NPR) came on:
"...until the President's Impeachment Trial is over." Then he hit the snooze button.

Phooey. They were talking about South Korea.

Interesting first visit for the new Defense Secretary...visiting the guy who is being impeached.

Have this thought game going--good for whiling away odd moments. . . . He could be boarding his helicopter, and a swarm of wasps flies up and bites him all over, causing massive anaphylaxis. A marine rushes forward with his epipen but falls and breaks it, second marine, also, and so on till, all the epipens are broken.

OR. . . .He's boarding the elevator at Trump Towner, and the elevator cable breaks and elevator plunges, backup stop system fails.

OR. . . . He's scarfing down KFC, biggest bucket, rat runs across the table and bites him on the nose, which gets infected, and he gets flesh eating bacteria which eats his nose.

Or. . . .you get the idea. Amazing how much better one feels after playing a while.

puddle, I read this as a desire for the pain to end, the destruction to cease, and life and morality in America to be restored. Given that the humans aren't pulling it together too well, maybe Mother Nature will take things into her own hands. Go Mom! 😉

Here are two vital links, folks.

The first is an interview on NPR with former US Diplomat John Brady Keisling
http://www.npr.org/2017/02/01/512906578/former-u-s-diplomat-weighs-in-on-state-department-dissent-cable

The second is a long and very thoughtful article about WHY we have the situation we have today, WHY Trump has so many followers, and what it means for going forward.

Senator Pat Leahy asked Vermonters to tell him our first thoughts about Judge Gorsuch. Here's what I just sent:

When I first read about both Judge Gorsuch and Judge Hardiman, I thought that Judge Gorsuch seemed the more reasonable of the two. I would greatly prefer Judge Garland over either of these, as I do not believe that Corporations are people, and I do believe that women are full humans who deserve full rights and choice. My only reason for accepting Judge Gorsuch would be that if we do not, the President may simply offer Judge Hardiman next. Is there even any hope that there would be votes sufficient to keep these two judges out of the Supreme Court? What are the options?
It feels very much like our freedoms are not just being eroded, but bludgeoned. Our environment and our national security are in grave danger. How much can Vermont mitigate the messes of this Administration at the State level?
My husband and I have been paying into Social Security and Medicare all our lives and are close to retirement. Much money was already taken from Social Security and not paid back. We are concerned that when we come to retirement, we will not have healthcare and Social Security. We have even pondered the idea of withholding taxes until we are assured that our basic needs will be met. We have never had such a thought before!
Will our Supreme Court now be favouring corporations over We the People? This article, which tells how we got into this mess, has really given me pause. http://www.vox.com/2016/3/1/11127424/trump-authoritarianism It suggests that it will be a very long time before we can come through this mess successfully. So it is all the more vital that our Supreme Court actually be a check on the Executive Branch! We are very close to a dictatorship. I feel strongly that Congress needs to find a way to remove this President from power, as being unfit to serve. Meanwhile, anything you can do to mitigate the raping of this great nation by corporate greed and mental illness is *deeply* appreciated. Please take care, good sir.

By now you've seen the Twitter message that declares:
"The estimated security cost for Melania living 200 miles away from Trump is double the annual budget for the National Endowment for the Arts."

Well, I looked it up. The annual budget for the National Endowment for the Arts is 146.2 million USD. It cost taxpayers half a million a day for security at Trump Towers prior to the Inauguration. So it would not be surprising if it were twice that now.
We the People provide a home for the President and Family. It is called the White House. If their child has special needs and must stay in NYC, the cost should not fall to the taxpayers. At least not all of it. That's just absurd. They could at least live somewhere else in the city, easier for the SS to tend. The building is 664ft high and has to be accessed by elevators. There is no way to get the President and First Family out quickly in case of an issue.
For this to be the situation and the Arts to be axed is UNACCEPTABLE! I'm calling my Congress members about this.

Egads, Jo! And Snopes confirms it:

I have to say I'm feeling very disheartened today after hearing Rep. Peter Welch on Vermont Edition. He said that he does not foresee it being possible for Congress to Impeach or Remove DT, unless Republicans change their stance.

He was also asked if it helps for people to call a legislator (such as himself) if they agree with them, and whether it helps to call people who are not your own legislators. He said that legislators only tally their own constituents, and that one's own constituents calling is always welcome, particularly because it keeps the constituents engaged.

I really do have better things to do with my time than making useless phone calls so that I can feel engaged.

Back to sipping candles!

er, dipping candles, that is. (slip of the digit)

So ... each of you ... how are you tonight? How are you holding up?

What helps you keep balanced? What's the hardest part?

I am grateful for this blog and community, knowing there are people who understand.

Well, they would kind of have to, or no skeet shooting with the Pres.

I'm ahead--got the next two posts ready to go, and one blank draft, just in case blogger decides to hate me again.

I was going be watching West Wing, since the inauguration. I just can't. I'd be sitting here sobbing.

Good Morning,

Thank you, Listener, for the information on how to contact Cory Gardner. He's pretty right wing, but in the latest news interviews, he seems to be somewhat more reasonable.

Dear Friends,
David, my husband of 50 years, had a heart attack and died Wednesday night, Feb. 1st. It happened very quickly. I was in the kitchen, and he said that something hit him wrong, meaning food, and he had taken an Alka Seltzer. I went upstairs and heard him fall. He was on the floor in the bathroom, unconscious. I massaged his chest, pumping 1, 2, 3, 4, the defibrillation routine, massaged his neck and face, and then called 911. The person there helped with the chest pumping as the emergency responders were on their way. When they arrived, they worked on him for about 45 minutes, but he never regained a heart rhythm. The doctor said that he thought he died very soon after the attack.

And so, this is the second day that David is gone. I told our sons not to come up yesterday because the roads were black ice, and Larimer County had reported several fatalities. They said they would try to come up today.

I'm okay, but please say a prayer for me that I can remain calm, have courage, and accept that David is gone and life will change.

Pat

Oh Pat I am so sorry. Love and prayers and healing light to you. Is someone with you until your sons can get there? Sorry, I just can't find words that are sufficient to your loss. May your special angels wrap their loving arms around you. XOXOXO

Thank you, Jo. I'm alone, but as an introvert, that doesn't hurt too much. Friends here have offered to come and stay and to call whenever I need to talk. One of my sons invited me to live with him, and that is something I'm so grateful for. I told him that I didn't want to become a burden or take from their independence, so we should think about it, but in truth, I love that.

Thank you, Jo, for the angels and I do need them.

Oh, Pat, my heart is broken for you at the death of your dear David, whose name, appropriately, means "beloved." 💔

It's meaningful that your gut reaction to living with your son was that you'd love that. It's also meaningful that he offered so quickly. You are wise to give it some consideration. You may still be in shock, and may notice aftershocks. Be gentle with yourself. Maybe keep a journal (dear writer) because nothing is static and it may help you (oh, poet) to notice small progressions. Sometimes we only know the way we are going by the direction in which we find ourselves walking. It isn't time that heals, it's what we do with the time. But there is no one right way to grieve. It is individual, like all else in the spiritual realm.

These first days will be filled with musts. It may be a grace that you got a little alone time before having people around. I am holding you in the Light. ✨💖✨ You are "tucked in my sleeve" ~ as the nuns of Stanbrook Abbey would say. If you would like to talk at any point, say the word. I will Message you the info.

Meanwhile, may love and memories be deep sustenance. {{{ HUG }}}

Oh dear Pat. I'm SO sorry you have lost your beloved. My love goes to you and your family in this time of sadness. I'm without words. Listener says it all so beautifully.

Oh, Pat! I'm so sorry. Losing one who's lived in your heart, and you, theirs has got to be beyond wrenching. I'm glad you have family, and community there, so close. Let them help when you can, it heals more than you know. Make sure you eat! Sleep will be harder than you think. The first laughter will feel like betrayal, but it isn't.

Thank you for letting us know. Love and light from here to there.
