W. H. Auden
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

This was given to me after Edwin died, and most felt how I did just then. I does pass, but just at that point, was exactly what I needed.
Thank you, Julie. Yes, it fits perfectly. I will read this again and again.
Thank you Julie, Jo, Barb, Listener and Shirlee for being here, for your love and commiseration. My sons came up today and we talked. They are both so sad, so devastated. They love their father so much. They drove me to the funeral home where I signed the papers and made arrangements. They were with me the whole way, and I feel grounded, loved, as if sanity can return.
Thank you.
I am so grateful to your sons. Pat. That sounds like solid family love. Bask in it. You and David created that love. You and David created those good sons.
That poem is one of my favourites too. I think the best reading of it I have ever heard is during the funeral in the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Just to add: Love *does* last forever. As the priest said at our grandniece Jillian's funeral, in September: "Those whom God does not cease to love, cannot cease to exist, however great that mystery is. In other words, it is not because we have value that God loves us, it is the other way around. It is because we are loved that we have value and worth that nothing can destroy, not even death."
Have you and your sons decided on when David's service will be? You and your loved ones are in our hearts. ππ❤️π
DeVos Update: NORTH CAROLINIANS! NC's Thom Tillis's office says he's undecided & wants 2 hear from people (919) 856-4630 (202) 224-6342
I love puddle's experienced commiserations on the previous thread. Yes, yes, the first laughter (and going on with living life) is not betrayal. It is tribute. ππ❤️
Good Morning,
My sons came up yesterday. We talked, and then they drove me to Estes Park where I signed papers at the funeral home. They were grieving but able to give me comfort and support. We will have a memorial service in spring. Since David is being cremated, that's not a problem, and the funeral director told me that's a usual way that people do this.
I'm so grateful for a wonderful life, a partner, friend, husband who always made me feel loved. He supported me in every way as to experiences, ideas, writing, teaching, as a parent, and I feel so blessed. He will always be in my heart, and I just hope that I have the courage and calm to continue.
Thank you for your friendship, love, and wisdom.
Pat, I am so sorry about your David's death.
Grieve now as needed....but laughter and
your poetry will come back. Lost my life's
love in 1994...not unexpected....but was adrift
for a while. Thinking fondly of you.
Puddle I have called Tillis' office...could not get through. Brenda is also on the phone to all.
The DeVos plan has done great damage to the schools in Michigan according to my son.
Evil, evil evil......when money is everything. Besides that she comes off as an idiot.....
right there with Kellyanne....!
WHERE do the Repubs find these people...under rocks?
Love to all...today to Pat especially!
{{{ π Praying you courage and calm Pat. π }}}
Yes, many people find that waiting a bit before having a service means that when the time comes they are really present to it, and can remember it, take in the things people say, feel the love, rather than going through it all while still dealing with their own THUD of shock and ache. It can be a kindness for you. The reason some people do it quickly relates to cultures (including our own years agone) in which the body needs to be buried for reasons of sanitation. Cremation allows a gentler pace.
My love to you and your sons tonight. π
We will be your rock, Pat. Much love to you and your sons ππππ
What a nice thought, Barb.
Puddle, Brenda got through to both Tillis and Burr......neither are voting against DeVos
no matter how many call.....essentiallyte message Brenda got from their offices. Bah!t
Sorry about that, certainly worth a try. Thank you and your kiddle!
Understand it's Super Bowl. Last one I watched was XII. . . many many years ago. Hope it's made everyone happy, lol!
No Superb Owl here, puddle. ;-)
That's football, right?
Family all over New England is ecstatic.
Getting excited about professional sports as if it matters.
Not my cup of tea.
Thinking of you, tonight, Pat. And you puddle. And you Shirlee. Thanks for the insights.
I know that when my turn comes it will be the single hardest challenge of my lifetime.
So very here for you.
Thank you dear friends for you love and thoughts.
Now one foot, now the other, Pat. π£
☕️ Wishing I could take a long silent walk in the woods with you, then make you a cup of tea and a pot of homemade soup.
❤️❤️π❤️❤️
Good Morning,
Thank you for your thoughts and love. Day by day. A friend said, If you do one thing every day, that's enough. Listener, I would love a walk in the woods with you, and by your saying it, I'm there and will think of you with me.
We will all experience this, and I'm trying to understand how to be calm, to accept, to find the sure footsteps to continue.
Love to you all as well.
Pat, I am sure you will learn to be calm and accepting..not just yet.
Take your time.....and treasure your memories.
I am expecting the physical therapist in just a bit....I think they are
getting ready to say "Adios"...
Love to all.
70ΒΊ today. Likely tomorrow, too. And I have the first headache in a coon's age.
Pat hope you are getting some spring-like weather!
Shirley--hope it's enough!
Am I alone, or is der turnip turning out even weirder than I thought?
"I wish there were a way I could wave a magic wand and put it back when people were respectful of each other and the Congress was working for the good of the country and not just along party lines," Ginsburg said.
"Someday there will be great people," she said, "great elected representatives who will say 'enough of this nonsense, let's be the kind of legislature the United States should have.' I hope that day will come when I'm still alive. "

Walking with you, Pat...I love that image. We have those moments in our journey when we feel utterly alone. Of course, we never are, since we are all in God and all are in God. We are all connected through the Holy that exists in the Universe and in our cells and souls. But sometimes, especially when we are in a place we have never been before, we experience a kind of vertigo and confusion. I suspect that our souls still trust, even in that space. But our minds are at a loss, and whenever that happens our monkey wants reassurance, because it doesn't feel okay. And that's all right. We all fuss about the negatives of ego. But, hey, the ego makes us aware, when we are in a new and uncertain place. Anyway, what I mean to say is that it's okay to be in a place you've never been before. It won't HARM you that it's uncomfortable, even heartbreaking. For some reason we ALWAYS come to a point where we completely forget this Reality, but when we are in a place we have never been before we are still perfectly safe...because God is already there and bears the memory of this place. This time is hard, and Shirlee is so wise to mention that acceptance may take awhile. It's a kindness to give your body time to catch up with what your soul already knows. The compassion of the Bodhisattva begins within. π
I copied this, Listener, to read again and again. It's beautiful. Thank you.
We are always with you, Pat. ❤️❤️
Well, Pat, I've read your poetry. I know you already have within you the wisdom you need for this time. If you can't yet access it, take a breath. Allow it to come when it will. It will. Prayers ensuing, dear friend. π
Oh, and new thread, lol!
