Morning, Campers!! Nancy came down and between the two of us we cleared the culverts, and moved the log to the river downside of the bridge. More she than I (her than me?). Most of it, 'cept for the big log, was a disassembled beaver dam, poor fella. Can't claim they're not industrious even if not great site planners.
AND the telephone guy is supposed to be coming this morning to look at and fix (Lord willing. . . .) the phone line. Since this is a 17 year old problem, they seem to have some idea what goes wrong (I no longer get lectures on checking my outside box, disconnecting and reconnecting all phone lines, or if it's in my house they'll have to charge me because I don't carry their insurance. . . .) Pray.

Can't tell for sure. Seems a bit better, but I was hoping for a LOT better, which it's not. Will see. If I don't see a significant difference in a couple of days, I'll call back. Pestiferous generally works. Just takes time.

Shirlee, you mentioned a while back that you were taking some kind of magnesium at night, I was doing okay at the time so didn't write it down. My blood tests indicated that I'm taking too much calcium, and since I can't up the kind of magnesium I'm taking, I need to find something new. Help!
I take Magnesium Malate in the evening--or anytime during the night if restless leg syndrome
kicks up. Also sometimes to relax a bit and get to sleep.
It apparently relaxes both muscles and nerves. The brand I have is Nature's Life. Daughter Marla of The Rock suggested it--her husband has very bad ILS and it helps him.
Wow--thanks for asking. I am convinced that for the shape I am in I am in pretty good shape because for at least 15 years I have taken a variety of supplements. changing/dropping/adding as things change.

Home from the vet. Mizzen and Spinnaker are 4 months old today. Despite the fact that Mizzen coughed this morning her lungs are better than last time. In one week we begin to take the kitties off the antibiotic, first Spinnaker then Mizzen.

My dearest friend meets the surgeon at 11:00am. She hasn't heard the results of her breast biopsy yet. She only got a call from the surgeon's office moving her appointment from the 22nd to today. You might say that rattled her a bit! Pray tuned. {Thank-you.} ♥

Out of VA, FL and CO are indicating that the present GOP message has a hard ceiling of support due to changing demographics but also changing attitudes. Obama is doing better with white voters than the GOP has been expecting. The GOP invested a lot in the anti-government and cultural themes (including birtherism) as a way to drive their share of the white vote up. In other words, they looked at 2008 through a racial lens. (hence the focus on voter id laws as well). The welfare ad is another attempt to find a racial wedge on a policy issue that has been settled for 16 years.
The big secret of the 2012 election is that Obama is doing as well or slightly better among white voters in his base states and the contested battlegrounds. If Obama can continue to focus on his campaign themes of supporting the middle class and drawing sharp contrasts with GOP policies, then he is going to continue to solidify is position and win the battlegrounds.

We have news.
As expected, after the surgeon appointment was moved forward two weeks, my dearest friend in all the world has breast cancer. And, as expected, it is Stage 1, thanks to her vigilance in getting mammograms (as her Dad got breast cancer a couple decades ago, requiring a mastectomy)...and which he eventually died of. So it looks like she won’t need chemo, and that’s a wonderful thing. She will get through it. It can’t be harder than giving birth and walking a fussy baby every night (she has five children and 17 grandchildren).
It’s easier knowing than waiting to know. Even so, her head is swimming with information overload and just the shock of hearing the word “cancer” to begin with. Thanks for your kind words, prayers and vibes. This isn’t being mentioned in other circles (like Facebook) yet, so it’s a relief for me to be able to say it here...especially on a blog full of empathetic women! I’m so grateful. ♥
I hope all goes well for your friend. She is in my thoughts.

Obama Administration, Wingnuts Being Wingnuts
Fox News is outraged –
The Obama administration told law enforcement authorities to go easy on Occupy Wall Street protesters, even though they were violating local laws, according to documents obtained by watchdog group Judicial Watch.
Emails from the General Services Administration show that the federal agency, acting on orders from the White House, told federal law enforcement authorities in Portland, Ore., not to enforce curfews on protesters camped out on federal property. JudicialWatch.org obtained the emails through Freedom of Information Act request lodged last year.
In one email exchange between the GSA and the Department of Homeland Security, it was clearly said that the White House preferred that Occupiers be left alone and allowed to camp overnight as long as there was no threat to public safety. What arrests had been made at that point had been carried out by local police in defiance of a request from the feds.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said the emails show the White House was protecting Occupy protesters.
“We now have a new GSA scandal — one that involves the Obama White House,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents clearly show that federal agencies colluded with the Obama White House to allow the Occupy Wall Street protesters to violate the law with impunity. These documents tell us that the GSA and DHS can’t be relied upon to protect federal workers or property.”
Although it’s touching to know that someone on the Right actually cares about federal workers, I must note that this new scandal is the flip side of the old one, in which the DHS, under orders from the White House, coordinated a violent crackdown of Occupiers. This story was pushed last November in a widely read Guardian post by Naomi Wolf. Even after thorough debunking, some posters at Firedoglake continued to flog this long-deceased horse for several more months because, your know, Obama is evil and we should have elected Hillary.
And I’m not holding my breath waiting for the Fox News story to pop up at Firedoglake.

Oh, my what a day--interesting but not productive. Just headed out to a urology appointment with one of my handy helpers driving my newly worked on Camry-- remarking at how GOOD the car sounded. Half a block away at the first stoplight it just plum died. Called another handy helper--who had just had her care repaired.
"Where are you, Rachelle?" "Sitting at a stoplight with a dead car." She had just had her car repaired and was on her way to help another Mom from the Grassroots Gang.
Called Brenda--and when she got off the phone with Rachelle--called me back and had plans in order.
Get us back to the parking lot, move the car from the street--that spot is just near where the city bus depot is, call the tow truck to get Camry back to dealership. Plans also made that somebody's car with who knows which of them driving to take me to RA doc tomorrow. Other Mom was called to re-assure her she hadn't been forgotten.
I would think I might need to be on somebody's Go List--but, hey--I live with two experienced planners and two assistants working just down the street. They have a truly kind and understanding director who has her own Mom problems to deal with!
I am so glad that Jo was able to get on --and about to get really hooked up!
Oh, noes, not your little putput!! Adding to my Go list! But you're right: sounds like the helper bees are out in force!! Still. . . . less surprises are *good* eh?
My phone line's been pretty dang good today. Not perfect, but good. So I'm going to assume they've done what they can on their end, and work on speeding up this side. I may try firefox again, as waterfox seems to some issues. Will see. Also need a new copy of AVG, as it is unable to update new virus definitions. One more try, and then I switch to something else.
Other than that, a gorgeous day. I'm working around the supplements to see if I can't up my energy level a tad. . . . Looks like the magnesium malate will help with that, too. I've been a supplement taker for long, comes in my genes, but I've certainly upped them this past decade. At this point, I'm the only one in my family with decent HDL and passable Vitamin D levels, and neither would have happened with out those ol' pill bottles, lol!
Breakfast with Edwin was always interesting: we each meted out our daily doses and sat and talked, and swallowed pills, and drank coffee.
Hmm--sounds like breakfast with Marla--she just dumps them on the table and sorts through and picks up what she thinks she needs for the day. Me, I need food with mine and because I have prescription meds to add I count out 4 days @ 3 times a day at once. Too easy for me to think--oops did I take THAT?
Off to bed now--good to know phone and computer lines are behaving a bit better.

I have two kittens snuggling with me as I type. :-)
My husband's family is known for its silly, witty humour. We got an update on his brother Larry (who has late 4th Stage pancreatic cancer) this afternoon from his dear wife, Liz.
Dear Family and Friends,
Where did we leave off? So much has happened since we last talked. The plan was to continue major antibiotics, hydration, monitoring, figure where the source of the infection started and what bug it is. Larry continued to have fever spikes Tuesday and Wednesday with some as high as 104. On Wednesday they removed his PICC line for fear that it too was infected with bacteria and they were correct. Now with no PICC they needed to start an IV for fluids and medications. Larry’s veins are a challenge because of all the cancer treatment but after 3 nurses, 4 pokes and 45 minutes they were successful.
This morning the team of doctors shared that they have the source and what the bug is. As soon as they told Larry the news he texted us at 7:30 with the following: (Think of the Oscar Meyer song – “my bologna has a first name…”)

Oh I like to kill it every day, so E COLI please go away

Got to love it - even sick he still is making us laugh!
This afternoon the team of doctors shared if no more fevers and labs look stable they will replace the PICC line tomorrow. So when we go home we will administer the antibiotics through his new PICC.

At our recent Family Gathering, Liz told me that Larry has treatments on Wednesdays, feels best on Thursdays, and Fridays are pretty awful. So last week we sent a card to Larry such that it would arrive on Friday. It was a store bought card that said something like: hope you have some rainbows; let me know if you need me to come over and paint some on your ceiling. So when we heard that Larry went to the ER twice last weekend, we decided to send him a rainbow. Julie at the Gift Shop at the hospital was great! They didn’t have a rainbow balloon, but they did have a sun catcher device that included a mechanism (with rainbow coloured gears visible through clear housing) which cast a double rainbow all across the room and back. That sure sounded like something Larry would like. Today we got a note from my sister-in-law saying:
Larry loves the double rainbow solar gift. And by the way we do too and all of the staff on the 11th floor - so glad he got a window bed! Brian, Thomas
and I can see the flashes from our room at the Best Western!

We also received today a note from brother-in-law Andy (brother of Larry and my husband!) in response to the teddy bear we sent him yesterday, after his prostate cancer surgery:

Nice to know our little bit helps someone through a hard day. You may never know what a difference you might make if you follow your heart, but you definitely make a difference! My husband and I always send a teddy bear to loved ones who are in hospital (no matter what age or gender). Larry has been in so much he has also received a Sock Monkey and the Rainbow.

good morning sunshines! thanks for the welcome home, I am almost there. here's the deal...
I rec'd muy Comcast modem last Friday and self-installed. I supposedly had an excellent' signal but could not get internet access. after a couple of hours of tracing out the wirinng in my basement - it's a mess, it was a mess when I bought the house 14 yrs ago and is even more of a mess now, thanks to many different providers who each dragged in new cabling - I did find the correct cables to switch and put new connectors on all to ensure a good signal. add to that 4 calls and about 3 hours of customer svc on Fri and Sat, they fimally sceduled a tech for yesterday - some folks called it a repair and others said it was an install because I didn't get a signal and would cost me $50 - ugh!
the tech arrivesd on time, nice young guy. he found that the service was not turned on at the pole, did that then found that my last internet provider had cut the Comcast wiring into the house. he brought in a new connection directly into my office with a regular cable outlet on the wall, bypassing the mess of wiring in the basement. it now has a killer strong signal but stil no internet access. he determined that I have a faulty modem, a new one has been shipped overnight and I am not being billed for the repair... let's hope this next modem works properly! sheesh!
soooo, I am going to have the old cabling removed (by my sons or do it myself) other than a tie that can be split to bring cable tv signal from the living room to my bedroom and IF and WHEN I decide to get cable tv in the future they can bring in new cable and start fresh. I asked the tech for his advice on this and he agreed that it would be better in the long run for a good clear signal and any future repairs. that might be a winter project.....

When Siege and I were seeing each other, he'd often call to ask if it was a Mercury Retrograde -- as a big rig driver, he was exquisitely aware of what other drivers were doing or about to do, and he said drivers just go nutso during a MR. Usually, he was right on, though he was also extremely sensitive to full moons.
I'd told him about my "rumored" Native grandmother -- family legend, but never proved (til last winter). He said to go ahead and meditate, and when in deeply just ask: Grandmother? Are you there? And if she is, she'll come quickly. I did, trying not to be too hopeful. And she was right there! As if she'd been waiting to be asked in. According to the Iroquois view, the grandmothers watch over their grandchildren. When I told him she'd come, he said, If you're lucky, she'll tell you her name. She *had*! -- almost immediately! And without my asking.

Daughter Dana's husband plans his life with whatever is going on--
Fairly productive visit with RA Doc--she is beginning to realize I am not giving up supplements --unless she can prove through blood tests, etc. That they are doing harm. Dana says the FDA is really pushing younger docs to take control of supplements--prescriptions needed.
I remember signing a petition against this the last time around!!!
Big Pharma, via the FDA is near kin to the GOP in its need to control everything in sight. I signed a few the last time around, too. Maybe we need to send prophylactic letters to our congress critters, just to remind them that we're neither dead nor stupid yet. Next up: they're going to want prescriptions for food and water. . . .
My docs over the past few years have been fairly open and interested. . . . Actually, most of my docs the past few years have been nurse practitioners, lol! I'm astonished at how much I like Laura -- a full MD!
Interesting, very interesting, to me that the authors of Beyond Aspirin predicted in 1999 that when the big pharma versions of Cox II inhibitors were unleashed on the public that heart attacks would begin. . . .
Some good news on the car front. Dealer says it was a (relay switch wire?) Not too costly. Not sure yet what was/is happening with Rachelle's.
Adding to the supplement discussion--I have found doctors who have experience practicing in other countries to be more open and accepting. They look at my list and may suggest one or two more. They may not be familiar with the formulations currently available--but are willing to learn that from their patients. I am always grateful for that advice and usually take it.
Dana-the dietetic tech--keeps reminding me that whatever a doc recommends are just suggestions. I guess if you turn them down too often--you may need to go doc shopping.

Pre-planning for our trip west and north is taking place. Leaving GSO next Friday--scenic route to the Hampton Inn in Kingsport, TN for two nights. It is part of the Triad including also Johnson City TN and Bristol Va/Tn--home area of the first recordings of mountain musicians.
I have loved those mountains for a long time--it is like going home--and I was born in MI and lived there for 60 years!
I wonder why we can love places so different from where we grew up? Of all the places I've lived, living in the redwoods was absolutely the *most* sense of perfectly right and perfectly home I've ever had. And not remotely like the desert and mountains of Utah, which I do indeed dearly love.

It looks like my friend with the breast cancer may be changing surgeons. Her primary care doc has still never received the lab report!!! It seems her primary doc and the surgeon are at different hospitals. If she switches, she will be able to use the Breast Care Center, which is so kind and supportive, instead of a cold doctor and rigid hospital. Her primary is going to try to set it up with a surgeon she likes. Fingers, toes, eyes and prayers crossed.
BTW, my friend is Kim. We were La Leche League Leaders together, had husbands who were engineers, did home birth and had five children, then home schooled our children at the same time...by then in different states. We wrote to one another several times a week for ten years...LONG HAND and SNAIL MAIL! It came to 30lbs of letters!
Y'know, I was always told that if you nurse your children you are at much lower risk of breast cancer. We each nursed FIVE for 2 or 3 years per child. But she got the unlucky genetics. =Sigh=
