POTUS will be speaking to us from Afgahnistan (surprise trip, he signed an agreement with Karzai and thanked the troops) at 7:30 pm tonight.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during his meeting with Karzai - I doubt that it's coincidence that he's there on the anniversary of bin Laden's death.

Take that you "Obama is WEAK on DEFENSE" republicons.
Thank you to you dear new bloggie. You lift my spirits.
Oh, and by the way, Our Man Dean is First
Shirlee, I hate to break it to you, but if you're counting me on that three, then we have *four* ~~ listener at least works at a library. And if we could get Donna to show up, that'd be five, lol!
Of course, there's *this*
attacked librarians
and this,
attack librarians
Jo, ignore the Lurker thread: it's empty, I was using it to get to the list of posts, sadly. May actually have something to say about it later though. Mebbe.
lol! I just saw that a few minutes ago! there are definitely some lurking, the stats have soared since Sunday. main sources are dfa, google and fb, in that order.
Dfa form for joining tonight's Feingold program opposing non citizens disunited ruling is not working.
won't recognized dfa member's preserved email add
Go techs
This is *beautiful!
publius, as far as I can determine, they've erased us. I have a page up showing my registration, but if I leave that to go *anywhere* else, I disappear (from the upper right hand corner). When that page disappears from my cache, I'll be totally gone from DFA as nearly as I can tell.
Maybe you have to get on from facebook?
I just got in from a walk into the Quarter to get some Southern Candymaker pralines and torties or whatever they call their turtles.
Barb, oh my heart hurt when I read of your father's passing. Like puddle said, it really is tough no matter when it happens. Big hug from me to you and your loved ones.
Oh and my knee has been like this on and off since that nasty fall at the Palazzo three years ago, compounded by me tripping up my curb the same week I got home. Yeowch that hurt, but X Rays showed no serious damage. I never signed a waiver but reported it with Genentech, so it's on file should I ever get to the point when I need to reach that documentation. I probably shouldn't have taken that walk but at the time, it felt good. Growing old comes with its little pains, I know that, until that fall in the bathroom, I never had any.
Go take care of yourself, drink some nice tea, think of daddy. He will always love you.
Well, the gas guys came this morning: lightening fast. I was so excited: I'm out of cheesecake, and so was going to make one this evening. Got ready, and when it was time to light the oven: NO GAS. Pilots have gone out, nothing lights. Checked the tank: zero. Checked my bill which says 18 gallons paid for. Was after five, so can't call till tomorrow.
So> pioneer Julie is baking cheesecake in an electric frying pan. Placed my crockery plate on top of an upside down pie plate. Will see. . . .
Ah, so the more book lover/librarians the merrier! Sad to say some librarians are not book lovers. Some are into "systems" or administration, or the new digital world.
They can be very bright and are needed--and perhaps have always been around. Book lovers of whatever stripe are more interesting people to me. The top Bibliographer at MSU
used to say "book people are born, not made." I tend to think they come from families where even a small collection of books are/were sacred. I love the book world and its characters--authors, artists, book dealers, etc. One of the best book men I have ever met is here in Greensboro--
Al Brilliant-founder of Unicorn Press. He has an interesting shop here in Greensboro--focuses on the humanities--don't expect how-to-use stuff. He is at Glenwood Books and Coffee on the net.
Poetry readings, community gathering spot--and he was the
Papa of the Occupy Greensboro movement.
And very proud that there were at least 500 people involved and during the long walk through town and the camping there was "not even a sprained ankle."
Going strong at 76.
You all get tired of my book talk-Jo can either cut me off-or you can just say "stuff it Murphy.!"
Love you all--and our new space.
Well, lol! The cheesecake turned out so well, I may have to consider doing it that way ALL the time. I've never used it for anything else (was a gift, and has been sitting in the storeroom as a back up for just such an occasion). I guess if people can keep an appliance just for cooking rice, I can keep one just for making cheesecake, eh?
And just to keep this political: Don't rePublicans make you *weary*? They do me. Decidedly.
*I* won't get tired of it Shirlee, lol! I worked at the U of M's Book Exchange as a cashier for several years simply to get the discount. Or largely, anyways, lol!
Nor will I get tired of talk about Greensboro -- my four months there were one of the loveliest times of my life. I am *extremely* fond of the city!
Jo, feel free to delete forever that deleted post. Blogger seems to have lifted parts of my "admin" ability. I can still get to the dashboard by hitting new post, but I'm not getting the trashcans nor the pencils.
I just left messages on the last thread. Couldn't help it. HAD to leave messages on the DEAN PHOTOS thread!
whitznd and Publius...personal notes there too. ♥
Isn't it sweet that we CAN go back to the last thread??!
THANK-YOU, Jo!! ♥
Listener, this is one of the most wonderful things about Jo's Place We can go back re-read, re-think, add
more, etc.
And Puddle, you may have to post your electric frying pan recipe here--even if only to keep the bashers away! A true homesteader you are--some of us have never even tried making cheesecake! Mostly here depend on Alex's Cheesecake Factory here on S. Elm. Just a couple of doors down from from where I live.
what years were you at UM? Or do I have the wrong M?
Shirlee, answer (more than you ever wanted to know is now a post at baby .
Turns out we DO have a character limit here: 4,096. . . So you may not want to click, lol!
Puddle--thank you for the information on baby. Now, when you have time something about your life in Greensboro..and where you live now-- It must be one of the four counties that were under a storm watch.
I have driven through West By God Virginia several times on my way from Michigan to Texas--and loved the
landscape. Had one man who owned a country store tell me
I shouldn't be out there alone! Very serious about it too--didn't want to tell him it was too late--I had been driving around the country by myself for years.
Never TMI!
and thanks for the electric frying pan cheesecake recipe.
will pass it on to my daughter who doesn't make cheesecake--but likes to cook and interested in others techniques.
What is the reason lurkers are not allowed?
why do you say lurkers aren't allowed? anyone is allowed as long as they are respectful of one another. the one exception whom I was 'talking to' above chooses not to be respectful to certain people whom she doesn't agree with. so she can take it somewhere else.
