If
you need an example of Obama Derangement Syndrome distilled to its
essence, gay Republicans mad at a Democratic president for supporting
their right to marry is it.
Still trying to find my way around Kos. It'll never be a replacement for this community, but keeps me from waterlogging this place, lol! Kos as the distinct advantage of not hanging/crashing my browser like facebook does.
You would never water log anyplace, Puddle. You are our rock! always love your words.
I have been recouping from a doc visit yesterday where 6 or 8 pre cancerous growths were burned away--and are now blistered and need to be babied. and then needed to go down and check out the 'hood and make sure everyone is behaving! Now waiting for a half hour parade of a team of six Clydesdale horses and carriage to come down Elm. In town with a festival.
Last evening college students, tonight Clydesdale horses!
Thanks for this thread, Puddle--picks apart the idiocy of their thinking.
What do you all think--are genetically inclined to have the world view of either a Dem or a Repub? Or is this learned? Or have I asked this question previously here? If so, I guess it is a question that has always fascinated me.
Interesting question -- I've thought about it, too. There was longitudinal study done in Berkeley, which followed the kids from pre-school through adulthood. The whiney, insecure kids grew up to be conservatives, and the self assured, well adjusted ones turned out librul. It's been posited that the more insecure you are, the more you whine, AND the more you wish to control everything about the world around you.
In my family of nine, howsumevah, I can't claim that's the way it worked. For one, we had no whiners at all, lol! We broke with five blue eyes, three brown eyes, and one hazel eyed. The blue and hazel ended up as basically Dems, and the brown eyes as Republicans. Two of them policemen. Blue eyes were all shy, and all thumbsuckers. Brown eyes all outgoing, and not thumbsuckers. Hazel, not shy, not a thumbsucker, and not a Republican. Seems like research backs up the shyness part -- about 90% of shy kids are blue eyed. Have no idea why.
We also were all raised in a radically left family. My mother fumed about the power of corporations right up to the end. I've always been amazed she never gave herself a stroke over the subject. They've all remained Mormons, and their Democrat-ness is more muted. Where the hell the Republicans came from I haven't a clue, lol! The eldest and youngest of the brown eyed are extraordinarily authoritarian; the middle, not at all -- egalitarian. But all three of them care a great deal about money and how it is spent. The blue eyes of the family don't seem to care *that* much, though they're mostly responsible. One of the blue eyes is married to a Tea Partier. How they work that out, I have no idear, lol!
Interestingly, in my dad's family of six kids, they only produced one Republican. And you guessed it: the brown eyed one who *really* cared about money, keeping up the front, and being willing to pretty much lie/cheat/steal to do so.
Yep, I know this is all anecdotal, still. . . . ya gotta wonder, eh?
Thank, Puddle. This is really interesting. Now I need to go back and think about my family. My very Irish father had hazel eyes, fumed about "that darned English Queen" until his dying day. It took me until middle age to realize he was not talking about the current Queen, but carried with him from three generations back the memory of Queen Victoria visiting Ireland, stealing their loving hearts and then going back to England and putting into place regulations requiring Irish agricultural produce be sent to England--making the famine situation much worse. He was such a strong Democrat that when he had cancer in the early 1990's he swore he was going to live long enough to vote against George Bush, Sr. He did--voting an absentee ballot in his hospital bed in 1992. He died a few days later. A powerful lesson--and made losing him easier.
Shirlee, that's just amazing! My father cast his ballot in 1964 just prior to going in to have a lung clot removed from his lung. He didn't survive. As mama was helping him fill it out, she said -- you could wait until *after* -- he refused. That would have been my first Presidential vote. I missed it: it was too late to get an absentee ballot before I went home for the funeral. I figured he got to cast my vote for me that year.
Puddle, I wonder often if that generation of Democrats who came through the Depression and knew directly what FDR's programs meant in helping them and their families had something that has gotten lost in the long struggle since. We do seem to have a lot of in common!!!
There are many studies on this. And yes, we are genetically wired for our particular stance in life.
Conservatives respect loyalty to the group authority and fear change. And the portion of the brain that controls fear is very much larger than in liberals.
Liberals, on the other hand are always searching for something new, are not afraid of authority and more open, and welcoming, to change.
I'll have Burt put together the the exact particulars in a short blurb for me to post either on this thread, or another. It is comforting to all us liberals and, if he can put it into a short blurb (his specialty) it can be an excellent talking point for us.
Thanks, Puddle and Barb. Maybe if we know our opposition better we are on the way to change? Not betting a lot on that except for the truly uncommitted.
Your post at Kos, Puddle, show us the true Romney. Thanks!
Glad you checked on Jo, Puddle. Was wondering how she was. Hope she feels better soon.
Michelle Obama is giving the commencement at Agricutural and Technical University this week-end. A and T was originally the "black" school. It is also the school where the four young men sitting at the Woolworth counter were enrolled. If you all ever get to GSO be sure to see their four statues on the campus. A proud movement--it was--after it all got sorted out by various players.
ack!--"who" is on first--time to get up on the bed and listen to a Mother's Day gift of a Wendell Berry audio book. "Jayber Crow"--Port William's sardonic barber.

Late sleepers, are you, lol!?
Howard is da oily boid!
I didn't get to sleep till after six. Made fairly good use of the time by posting that diary at Kos.
Mornin' Puddle. I love having this page as my homepage. Every time I open my browser, there you all are!
Nice to have you here, as well.

I tried at least lurking at Kos when DFA was still a good place to go to, get information, etc.
But there one-liner replies always made
the place feel splintered to me.
Glad you are posting there--and sharing.
Many thanks.
Woo--I really AM a good speller and know the difference between there and their. Sorry.
Lovely Friday before Mother's Day here in Greensboro.Low to-mid 70's, blue skies--but another round of pollen from whatever seems to be blooming late.
Lol! Maybe it was just a missing comma?
But there, one-liner replies always made
Jo, the Clove Pinks are blooming!! Lovely to look at, lovely to smell! Going to try for a picture later.
AND I'm now officially worried about you. Did you overdo yesterday? Hoping it's nothing more than that.
