Howard's on first!

Shirlee, I think she may be having trubble with her wifi -- she mentioned it yesterday a.m. and started a draft, which she never got back to. Also, blogger is being *extremely* crappy, which could make you just give up. I do sometimes.

I hope she is just locked out for a bit.

howdy! quick drop in. I am okay - still fighting the fatigue and a few minor trubbles with my hip and leg. I have been busy and wifi is crappy so this will be quick! thanks for thinking of me!

Barb I will send you my email addy thru a facebook msg so you can type it up in word and I'll create a thread. not sure when this crappy connection will fail but will try to do it today. ;)

Love reading your thoughts, dear ladies! Keep it coming! xo

Yay, Jo!

For me, the fatigue is becoming the biggest factor. I've *never* been peppy (I was such a slow child I ended up having a basal metabolism test when I was ten, and learning all about Brewer's Yeast, lol!), but this is more than I've felt in a long time. Can't quite get a handle on the fix. My bloodwork's fine, so it's no kind of anemia, but I really do feel drained if I try to do very much more than read/sleep/play with the computer. I suppose it could be the aftermath of the starvation. We really seem to know very little about that: the best starvation study was done when I was four years old!

Yay! Once again the blunder tigers prowled and howled and headed norther than me! Got a good soft rain which will keep rather than runoff. Can't imagine how I lived before the days of internets/radar, lol!

Hi Jo,

Recovery from surgery takes a long time with respect to energy. We've had two years of recovery here from my husband's foot operation, and just now some of the old energy is returning. That's partly why we were able to go to New Orleans.

And we've been planting. The energy wasn't there last summer.

I remember after having my second child telling the doctor that I had no energy. It said it takes a year to recover your energy from child birth.

So, rest when you can. Eventually, your energy will return, though as we get older, it's not what it was when we were younger.

We just planted ten beautiful purple irises a neighbor gave us. It takes so much diligence in the arid West to grow things. As I read of the beautiful flowers you and Puddle and others have, I picture in my mind how gorgeous it would be if the aspens, the weeping cherry, the redbud trees, the lilacs, and the Siberian apricots all thrived and bloomed.

We always have hope here.

So good to hear that Jo is OK--if tired.
What a wonderful picture of our favorite guy! Thanks.

My take on energy--just expect it to fall away as you grow older, and get worse if complicated by health problems.
Eat as well as you can, rest as often as you need to----
--and learn to say NO to people or things that drain away what energy you may have. Try to keep your immune system up.

I have also had to learn to feel no guilt about napping, or resting whenever I feel the need. Speaking from personal experience here. I took early retirement because of severe RA in the 80's and no really good meds to control
the inflammation. Result exhaustion--complete and utter.
Good meds now--but with their own problems, of course.

Off for now--
Doc Shirlee

Vitamin B12 is a good pepper upper. I don't take it often, but I CAN'T take anything with caffine in it!

And YES it is a wonderful picture of our favorite guy.

Jo, I'll check my FB messages. Thanks!

Thanks Pat, and Doc Shirlee, lol! My thyroid always tested borderline low except for the two years the Graves Disease was building. Some docs would help with thyroid, some wouldn't. From MY point of view, it wasn't borderline, it was too damn low. But I always thought the upside of not being "peppy" was that it made me a reader. And I wouldn't give that up for all the pep in the world. I remember seeing a woman Evelyn Wooding The Sound and Fury, and thinking she can't possibly have a clue as to what's going on in that book at ten pages a minute. . . . (subway observations)

My last ex was the energizer bunny: he could *not* sit still. If forced into a chair, his leg jiggled, he rocked back on its legs, jumped up. Not a reader, lol! Which in the end was the greatest conflict of all: he simply could not understand the pleasure of knowing things, finding out things, and imagining things. Only making and fixing things. And in the end was just outright *jealous* of my reading. I learned to hide even the newspaper when he was around.

Shirlee, that's one hell of a long time to deal with RA! Hugz and hugz!!

You're right about B12, Barb. I take 1,000 mg or 2,000 mg a day, sublingual. A multi-B, too. All my vices are "uppers" -- nicotine, caffeine, even chocolate on occasion. . . .

It *is* a great pic, eh? Didn't think it needed hardly a word to go with it, grin.

Ah, and meant to say, I'm sorry you're not going to National. I believe I'd have loved an excuse to drive down and meet for lunch!! And hugz.

Puddle, the only regret I have in not going to NC is that I won't be able to see you. But you are always in my thoughts.

Hello Ladies!

I find myself, once again, having to play catch up here, but you're in my thoughts.

The graffiti on the fence is gone, looks like new. My windshield was fixed today by a small business glass guy that actually lives on my block. Now that is buying local :)

I'm chilling, watching Dancing with the Stars. I wanted to say hello and to say I love you all!!

Nothing new in my life, except Mr. 7 11, who I met over a year ago, but "lost" my number (long story, won't bore you), has found me again the past few months. We have been going out a bit, but mostly relaxing at my place, when I'm there. My FB friends can see him - name is Rob Knuist. He makes my heart flutter a bit I must say.

Thanks, Puddle--appreciate it--much!

Who remembers what was the one word phrase that HD uttered when he first entered a room full of supporters?
It was some older
word that the reporter found interesting and unusual for a Presidential candidate.

I have been racking my leaky brain for days trying to remember this.

Would love to be reminded--I remember thinking Wow,this is
my guy!!!

Shirlee, he had me at Confederate Flags, lol!

Denise, that is one hunk. . . . Is this a public announcement? Ahem?

Denise said...

No public announcement, just a new person whose company I am enjoying. He's a lot of fun, same musical tastes and sick humor, LOL. Always nice to make new friends. Oh, and he works in the trade show union. Sweet!

yes, indeedy - that man would make a heart flutter! yahoo, Denise!

Had a wonderful, long, nourishing talk with Thankful last night/this morning. She says she'll try to drop by soon, and says to say HI! to everyone.

Her Mother in Law is moving in this weekend, so she's going to be right bizzy for a while. And has been. . . .

Just so you all know--the word Howard uttered when walking into the first Meet-Up
(maybe-or just a group
supporting him) was--
ZOUNDS! when he saw how many were there.

Came to me as I was mulling over old expressions "egad" nope--"gazooks"--nope
and then there it was
Zounds--yep.

Talk to you all later--off to a doc.

Thanks for the Zounds
link, Puddle. Really enjoyed re-reading that article. He is truly just a good, honest man. I was truly disappointed when he lost--but really grateful now. He is free to speak out about anything and beholden to no one. We NEED that voice!

oops--correction--
meant to say "he is SUCH.."--not just!

Very good piece on the Newshour tonight from Southern Europe.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/
Greece, Spain on the Brink of Collapse

Real life, hard case portraits of working class families losing most of whatever they had.
A wider view included a couple of Women of apparent means, one from Spain and one from Greece, making the point that German coerced austerity on behalf of the financial sector will be Germany's own undoing.
Each of the ladies made the point that much of the excesses of Southern Europe's spending binge were spent on German produced goods and services and that Germany's economic fate depends on
the fate of its customers.

The Spaniard was the most eloquent and succinct:
"If the Germans tell us to go to hell, they will be coming with us."

I see signs that the western democracies may have what it takes to reorder economic priorities of their governments AWAY from being a backstop and enforcer for the finance industry and back TOWARD
"Promoting the General Welfare."

I agree about how very long recovery takes. I had residual pain for about 2 years after having the shingles, and I was truly wiped out much of the time.
